For our anniversary we booked the Captain's Deck Jr Suite on the 16th floor for it's views (Hotel description :Captains Deck Suite W-Parlor Area-Full Breakfast-Appetizers-Comp Athletic Club Mountain Or Inlet Views) in November of last year. When we arrived August 14th the front desk clerk said they were filled up and only had a room facing one of their other towers. After explaining we had booked months earlier, had the written confirmation of the suite and my muttering something to my wife about posting our dissatisfaction on TripAdvisor, the clerk went into a conference with another clerk, then after spending 10 minutes (or so it seemed) on the computer, found a corner suite on the Captain's Deck. After that unfortunate experience the rest of the stay was quite nice.
The Cook does not have air conditioning in any of the rooms. The manager advised us that there was a project for 2013 to renovate and add AC. So if you are planning a trip in 2013, check as to when the construction is scheduled.
We found the breakfast as well as the evening appetizers quite substantial and tasty. They do not serve alcohol in the 17th floor lounge but you are allowed to bring your own.
We should mention the sound of the toilet flushing is akin to a jet plane taking off (some sort of pressure system rather than gravity)More
