“One of the best B&B's”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2007

This is a very nice B&B. Three course breakfast, very quiet neighborhood, internet access, private baths.

Our favorite B&B on our trip.

Carol and Jim are a delight. We felt we were at our own home.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2007

We stayed at the Muddy Moose for 3 nights in late May 2007. The experience was great!! The home is located on a steep hill just a few minutes outside of Anchorage. Since the city isn't too big, this meant only a 10 minute drive from anywhere in the city. The Muddy Moose is on a dirt road, just a mile or so off the paved road. In case you've never traveled in Alaska before, don't be alarmed that the B&B is on a dirt road. Most side streets in Alaska are unpaved unless you're in the middle of the city. The road is very well maintained and no problem to drive at all (at least in the summer!) The house has a wonderful view of the city and the mountains that frame the city.

The Muddy Moose has 3 bedrooms to choose from, all on the lower level of the Belisle's home. The Belisles reside in an area off the dining/living area on the second floor. All 3 rooms were light, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. One bedroom has no attached bathroom, but it's directly across the hall and dedicated for use by that bedroom only. There is a little room with a computer (high speed connection) and telephone for guest use. There is also an area stocked with brochures, books and info regarding travel in Alaska.

Our bed was very comfortable, firm but not hard. The quilted down comforter on our bed was fabulous! The bathroom attached to our room was attractive and EXTREMELY clean. Our bathroom had a sauna, which looked nice, but which we never seemed to have time to use. There was a balcony/patio accessible through french doors in our room, and we saw a moose just next to the balcony, about 5 feet from our bed, on our first morning there. Incredible!

The breakfasts at the Muddy Moose deserve a paragraph all their own. Wanda Belsisle loves to entertain, and she is a fabulous cook. Breakfasts were served between 7-9am. Wanda served her homemade granola (which I got the recipe for...it was that good!), fresh cut fruit, muffin or banana bread, an egg entree (omelet one day, quiche one day, egg/potato pie the next day), a meat ( bacon one day, reindeer sausage the next day, patty sausage the last day), potatoes on some days. Her coffee was Starbucks and it was excellent. There was always a carafe of juice on the table. The breakfast at The Muddy Moose is an EVENT, and not to be missed!

In addition, Wanda's husband, Jim, joined us for breakfast each morning, providing info, tips on places to go in Anchorage, stories of living in Alaska, travel advice, etc. He's a friendly and knowledgeable guy. We followed several of his recommendations about what to do in the area.

The price of this B&B is much less than some others in the center of the city, and it was MUCH nicer than one we also stayed in later in our vacation, The Sleeping Lady, which seemed to offer breakfast as an afterthought.

Try The Muddy Moose! It was great!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Muddy Moose for 4 days. I stayed in the Alaska room which had a private bath with a sauna. The bed was comfy and warm. slippers and robes were provided for use during my stay. no shoes indoors as it is the rule in Alaska. The room had a door to an outside deck which was nice for enjoying the outdoors. The upstairs common room and breakfast room had large windows which had a beautiful view of the mountains and of anchorage. The breakfasts in the morning were varied and very yummy and filling!! I never left hungry. Small fridge in the hall provided snacks and beverages. The hosts were very friendly and informative about the places to visit in the area. The drive up the hill to get to the muddy moose was well worth it!!
