“Best Breakfast in Town”
Reviewed June 11, 2010

Great location, next to park and downtown within walking distance. Great room and the host was terrific, preparing the best breakfast we had in Alaska. Very clean and private, with a great balcony where we were served our great coffee in the morning.

I don't want to drag on too much here as on pretty much all counts, the place and hosts were fantastic. My wife and I selected this as our overnight stop in Anchorage prior to heading to Seward where we would board a cruise boat. We booked online months in advance as we understood that summertime accommodation in Alaska can be hard to come by. As you may have seen, everywhere is expensive and you can't be certain of what you'll get. We selected G Street based on the location to town (for the bus transfer to Seward), location to the Coastal Trail, cost, location from the Airport (less than a $20 cab including tip), and the need to have our own bathroom and internet access.

The room we had (queen room I think - sleeps two in a queen bed with a private ensuite) was lovely; The best night's sleep I'd had on my travels to date (about three weeks through UAE, europe, UK and NYC). Our host was able to give us some good information of town including art stores, restaurants and attractions. One thing that I can definately recommend is the museum of history and art.

My only issue is cost - but I guess you can hardly blame them when the city closes down to tourism during the winter. I don't feel as though the cost was excessive, just expensive. It was certainly a better deal than any of the hotels. Given the same circumstances I would go back again.

My husband & I and my Mom stayed at G st. B&B for 2 nights. We had the suite which worked perfectly for us. One bedroom has 2 twin beds and the other has a very comfy queen. The bathroom is in a private hallway between the 2 rooms. The toilet and a tiny sink are in one room separated from the shower and another sink by a wall that goes almost to the ceiling, each area has it's own door.
Megan was "Inn sitting" while Pam & Allan were out of town. Megan was very helpful in giving information and suggestions. As has been said before, the location is near to downtown, so we walked most places. The Inn is very comfortable, with a relaxed at home feel. A little more attention to the decor would make it even nicer. Breakfast was good, we enjoyed talking to the other guests.

We had booked our 3 nights at G Street over the internet before leaving Australia so weren't sure what we'd find. We were thrilled with our booking. Pam & Alan were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. The location was so central (within walking distance to downtown) and we looked forward to Pam's breakfasts each morning. We would recommend G Street to anyone visiting Anchorage.

This bed and breakfast was a great find. It is very conveniently located and the room was just lovely. Very comfortable.
Meghan and Ted were the perfect hosts and we really appreciated that they let us check in way before time and then invited us to join them for a delicious breakfast.

There is a beautiful garden in front of the house where you are welcome to sit and relax.
All in all a fantastic place to stay!

We were in Anchorage for only one night with our 2 teenaged daughters. Our plan was to leave for a cruise the next day.

As I evaluated our hotel options for Anchorage I quickly realized that hotels were very expensive, and more importantly, none of the reviews for the hotels were consistently good. We therefore decided to opt for this b & b knowing that it would be a different experience for our family.

Our plane arrived around noon, and we got to the b & b about 1 p.m. I didn't know if we could "check in" that early, but we were warmly welcomed into this lovely home. Our accommodations were perfect for our family. We had 2 bedrooms and a private bath in between. Everything was perfectly clean. Our girls' bedroom had 2 twin beds and that was great for them.

We felt a little uncomfortable hanging out in a stranger's home, but our plan, all along, was to investigate Anchorage. We took off to downtown and spent hours having lunch, enjoying the sites, exploring the museum, etc. Eventually we rented bikes for the Coastal Trial, had another "snack" and returned to the b & b about 10 p.m. completley exahausted.

In the morning, we joined the owners in the living room for coffee while a wonderful full breakfast was prepared. We had lively conversation and soon the other guests wandered downstairs (appearing just as uncomfortable as we had started). They eventually sat in the living room while we ate our breakfast (we had asked for an early breakfast so that we could leave for our train).

Overall, our experience was excellent. Although we've been home from our trip for over a week, we still talk about the great time we had at this b & B. It was a wonderful find and a great value. True, this is not a hotel experience where you get a t.v. in your room, and perhaps the owners could educate the guests in terms of what we're welcome to do (go in the living room?) or what we are not, but it was a perfect fit for our family and a wonderful send-off for what turned out to be an outstanding vacation.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and the value
  • Disliked — Not knowing what is expected of the guest.
