“Like sleeping in a stranger's house”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2009

I agree with all of Home in Pa's review.
This bed and breakfast was a lot more like sleeping over at a stranger's house- while they and their family are there.
We stayed only one night. Our room was in the main house where we could hear the family watching tv, talking and the owner's grandchildren. There were an abundance of rules posted in various place (leave luggage here, shoes off here, no alcohol, no tv after 11, etc.) which were unwelcoming.
The breakfast was fine and the owners were friendly, but this was overall a very awkward place to stay.

We stayed here 3 nights. The 1st night we arrived in Anchorage at 1 am, got our rental car and drove to the B&B. They had an envelope taped to the door, letting us know where our rooms were. They have the main house and a smaller guest house. We had 2 rooms booked in the guest house. The guest house has one room with a private bathroom and 2 rooms that share a bathroom in the hall. We were travelling with our 2 teen boys so we didn't mind sharing the bathroom. The guest house also has a common living area and full kitchen. There were several other couples staying in the other room on various nights. We never had problems with them. We like to go to bed early and wake early. We never heard them come in.

When we got up in in the mornings we were careful to be very quiet.

The breakfasts are freshly cooked every morning and were wonderful. One morning hot blueberry waffles & reindeer sausage. The next was breakfast burrito buffet. There was also fruit, danish, variety of cereals, instant oatmeal every morning.

It is on a busy street, but when we closed the windows, we did not hear the street noise. There is a very nice park across the street and bike trail. The B& B has many bikes to borrow and we took 4 of them one afternoon and rode the bike trail for several miles. All four of us really enjoyed this. It is several blocks from downtown, but we walked it and didn't think it was bad. We also walked to the train depot and back.

I would recommend staying here. Price was very reasonable.

The owners of the Artic Fox B&B double-booked our room, so we were brought to this bed & breakfast instead. By the time we were done with breakfast, we couldn't wait to leave.

The house is in a residential neighborhood, on a busy main road, next to a public park. It is not a quiet secluded location, and it is also not very close to downtown Anchorage -- about a one-mile walk.

The room & bath were fine, but just steps away from the family's main living room, where they stayed up until after 11 pm talking loudly and watching TV.

The owners (a retired couple) live in the house, along with their adult son, his wife and infant child. There is little privacy, and the house rules change, depending on who you ask.

For example, we borrowed a laptop to check our email and the wife said go ahead and bring it to your room, you can use the wireless signal from there. Then the son was panicking because he didn't know we were using it and thought that the laptop had been stolen. He reprimanded us for not using the laptop in the living room area.

The breakfast was mediocre. We did not feel like guests, we felt like we were intruding in someone's home.

If you are in Anchorage, don't stay here -- find a more welcoming bed & breakfast.
