We spent our first night in Alaska at the Walkabout Town B&B. Although the owners were away, their son, daughter-in-law, and grand-daughter received us and made us feel right at home immediately. The room, the Australian room, was spotless, and very comfortable. The breakfast was tasty, filling, and a great way to start the trip. Highly recommended.

What more could you want? We stayed at the Walkabout Town B&B at the end of our trip, and it was so nice to have a place from where we could walk to downtown Anchorage. (We were sick of driving.) We stayed in the Queen room, which is comfortable, cozy and has an attached bathroom. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and there were many things to choose from. Cold cereal, toast, pastries, homemade yogurt and jam, and hot breakfast options. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juice were all offered. I enjoyed meeting the proprietors and chatting with the other guests over breakfast. The Walkabout is also very close to the gorgeous Tony Knowles coastal trail, which makes running, biking, or walking very easy. It was about a 10 minute walk to downtown Anchorage. I highly recommend staying here!

We stayed here a singe night before heading south to the Kenai Peninsula . We arrived at 8:30 PM and we were soon settled in the first floor Russian Room (a generous and unexpected upgrade based on availability). This room has a very comfortable king size bed and is adjoined by a private bath. We then headed out for a walk on the nearby paved walking/bike trail. About a mile into our walk the mosquitoes got the best of us, but if we had stayed another night, we would have used bikes provided by the Walkabout, sprayed ourselves with bug spray, and really taken advantage of the trail. Our breakfast the next morning was delicious. Homemade yogurt topped with a rhubarb sauce made from rhubarb grown by the owners was an especially nice touch.

Our room and bath were spotless, and Sandy and Terry were very congenial hosts. The location is about a mile from what appeared to be the main downtown section of Anchorage. This B & B was a wise choice for us. It was an $18 taxi ride from the airport, and in the morning we walked to town and picked up our rental car.

You will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the house; this apparently is some kind of Alaskan custom.

Very highly recommend the family-run Walkabout B&B. Sandy runs the place with her husband, son and daughter-in-law. Each AM you have breakfast made by another member of the family. It's very, very clean, quiet, and complete (TV, full kitchen, BBQ, washer/dryer, bikes for lending, etc.). Recommendations for hikes, restaurants, and rainy day activities are spot on. And, the neighborhood adjacent to the big coastal park and downtown. We just walked everywhere. Great for families as well as individuals and couples. We made it our home away from home by staying there before going to Denali, before Seward, and before flying home.

Room Tip: All rooms are great.
