The depot is small as train stations go but the staff is most helpful and friendly with a small ticket counter. Busiest between 7 to 9:30 am mornings when check-in lines can be long, so best to go after 10 am to buy tickets, get info, etc.

Both tours and individuals travelling to Denali and Fairbanks funnel through this rather small depot. They have configured it so you drop off bags at a large tent located adjacent to the depot, enter the depot to collect your ticket then they mark the train car you will board using large flags so the crowd quickly disperses to board.

The train depot in Anchorage is very basic and serves it purpose. I liked the one in Denali a bit better, but both of them were clean and provided good service. Our tickets that we reserved were ready for us and accurate. The do have a good selection of Alaska Railroad clothing.

The site seeing along the trip was excellent. Service was very good, the guides/conductors were very very good. They were local college students who really love their jobs. The only issue was a 6 hour stop over in Seward. It does give you time to do some of the local attractions [boat ride or dog sled]. We had already done these things and hung out in local restaurants and bars. If you hadn't been to Seward before the time works well. This was the only place we could do a 1 day turn around trip or we would have to do an overnight trip, so we had to do Seward, but the visuals were great.

Clean station near the downtown area. Plenty of parking space and easy to approach. The luggage handling service was efficient and easy and boarding was quick.
