Breakfast or lunch at Gwennie's is a real treat. The food is home cooking and very large portions. We enjoyed a breakfast of reindeer sausage, (spicy) eggs and all the trimmings. Our friends had the crab omelette (which they split) bursting with crab meat. For lunch on another day we dined on hot crab louise sandwich. Breakfast is served all day, a favorite dining spot for locals. Wait staff is wonderful. Great collection of old photos upstairs. Great for family gatherings.

The food was good old home cooking, the service was very nice and the price was right. We ate there several times while we were in Anchorage. We will definitely go back.

It's been a couple of years since I've been, but will try to make this July trip. Gwenies is nothing spectacular, but a nice Alaskan experience. I try to get breakfast here on every trip. The helpings are abundant and tasty, but I've had better. The "reindeer" sausage is outstanding, and if you order it on the side you won't be able to finish it. The atmosphere is rustic and typical Alaska, and children friendly. The servers are always nice and helpful.

Gwennie's Old Alaska Restaurant was recommended to us by several local residents. They all said, "You've got to try the reindeer sausage." and they were right!

We each ordered what we considered to be a "normal" sized breakfast and the waitress asked us how hungry we were. As usual, I said quite hungry and she proceeded to suggest that we might have "over ordered". Turns out she was right too. The portions were very large and I enjoyed the reindeer sausage immensely.

The prices were very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food we ordered. My wife loved their buttermilk pancakes although she couldn't finish the two she ordered.

The waitress, Jodi, was very pleasant and the atmosphere was definitely local Alaskan. The only negative was the sullen hostess who was quite brusque as she seated us and we watched her time and again berate their busboy. We had already commented to each other about what a good job he was doing and how industrious this fellow was (he was physically challenged in some way) which is why we had noticed him to begin with.

Regardless, that didn't hinder our enjoyment of the meal or the restaurant, but we'd have given Gwennie's a 5-star rating instead of 4 if she hadn't been as rude and brusque as she was.

We like to eat at different places when we travel but Gwennies had us eating there 2 nights in a row. The staff is friendly and remembered us from the night before. Food plentiful and tasty. Prices were reasonable.
