A friend wanted to try out the Pepper Mill. We both had great steaks and enjoyed the meal and the service.

Don't expect a downtown atmosphere like Sullivan's, but really the point is enjoying a good meal with friends. It didn't look dirty to me as I've seen in some reviews, both Peppermill (in various guises) and attached Sea Galley have been around for 20+ years. The food is decent, the menu doesn't change much, the waitresses were young and pleasant. We all liked our meals and had a good time. I would go back there again and recommend this restaurant.

I love the bar/lounge at the Pepper Mill. The bartender is fun and attentive, and truely cares about what his guests think about the food and service. I have not had any of the dinners; I enjoy the appitizers and salads, the steaks are overpriced and I've not heard good things. I like nearly all the appitizers, but, the bacon wrapped scallops have not been fresh the las two times. Ask for Jack's Steak. It's the prime rib trimings and a grilled chicken breast with pita bread. Yum.

I made the mistake of patronizing the Pepper Mill based on their listing in the AAA guide. The decor is a bit dated, but the restaurant is comfortable and clean. There's an amazing selection of pepper mills collected by the owner. Each table has six pepper mills with different type of pepper or salt. Unfortunately some of them are stale. Service was friendly and attentive. An initial Caesar salad was tasty and substantial, but my bourbon steak was a disappointment. Although the steak was properly cooked rare, it was loaded with gristle. Someone clearly was cutting corners with their meat supplier. And the bourbon pepper sauce was bland and heavily thickened. A simple freshly cooked pan sauce with bourbon and some black or green peppercorns would have been much better. On the good side the steak was served with some nicely sauteed vegetables and good bread sticks. The menu has a good wine and beer selection at reasonable prices. This restaurant desperately needs to improve the sourcing of its steaks and simplify its approach to sauces.

Dirty carpet, dated atmosphere... unless you eat outside. And then it is quite nice for a late dinner. But the dishes are homey without the home, not so flavorful.
