Expeditions Alaska is a unique guiding company that shows you the real Alaska. I have done numerous day-hikes with this company, as well as other trips. Group size is usually limited to 5 or 6 people, which allows for a great deal of flexibility for the group. Expeditions Alaska include transportation from Anchorage to the start of the hike and back in the trip price, which is a great feature, not shared by any other guiding company operating in Wrangell-St Elias National Park that I know of.

As a long term Alaska resident, company owner and guide Carl Donohue has a wealth of knowledge about the areas on the hikes. No matter how many emails or phone calls I made to get questions answered, Carl was patient and extremely helpful. Carl's motto is "Safety First!" which I find very appealing. He goes through a thorough safety check prior to every hike (I don't always pay complete attention, but I've done more than 10 different trips with Expeditions Alaska).

I travel alone; Expeditions Alaska is a great guiding company to use if you don't have someone to travel with. It is not only safe, but great fun because the other tour members become your travel companions. I've made a number of great friends through these hikes, and often look forward to seeing them again on future trips.

The hikes themselves have a relaxed and often improvisatory nature; I find this fluid approach relaxing by contrast with more rigid schedules of other companies I've hiked with. The scenery is superb, and wildlife viewing is also generally good.

I highly recommend Expeditions Alaska. The hike descriptions on the website are very detailed and accurate. If you want a unique Alaska experience, this is the guiding company to use. In summary, I wouldn't hesitate to take another trek with Carl/Expeditions Alaska or to recommend it to anyone

My day hike with Carl of Expeditions Alaska was one of those momentous "life events." It was such an amazing experience, I can remember nearly every detail: the fireweed swaying in the breeze, the erratic boulder we explored, the glacial moraine we crossed, and the giant moose rack we found.

When you hike with Expeditions Alaska, you hike with Carl. You hike with an expert. I watched Carl scan a sweeping vista of backcountry Alaska and see things I didn't even know to look for. I highly recommend a hike with Carl. You will laugh, you will learn, you will see amazing sights, and you'll leave with some fantastic photos and cherished memories.

I knew hiking in Alaska would be an adventure, but taking a day hike in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve with Expeditions Alaska was unforgettable. Carl, the guide and owner, was an excellent guide from assuring our safety and providing tips on hiking over glacial moraine to identifying plants and animals and providing insights into the area's geology and human history. Plus, he has a great sense of humor! I will definitely be back for another hike! Highly recommended!
