We stayed at the Arctic Fox for two nights in August. We booked a two bedroom apartment as we were travelling with another couple.

Firstly - the rooms were clean and tidy which was very important to us. We met Courtney the cleaner who was wonderful to deal with.

Now, the down side. We booked our apartment way in advance to ensure there would be no problems. A week before arriving we received an email asking us to do THEM a huge favour. They asked if we would mind moving apartments on the second night so they could accommodate another group coming in who would otherwise have to move twice. If we agreed we could leave our bags and go out and when we returned the bags would be relocated for us. We also would get a discount on the second night.

Well, we agreed to do this - what a mistake.
Our first night was on the ground floor - nice enough apartment - a bit dated (out of the 70's) Our bed squeaked very loudly and we did hear the upstairs apartment stomping around at 430am which was quite annoying. Other than that it was okay.

We packed in the morning - only to be told that we would have to move our own bags (all 11 of them) and if we didnt then the housekeeper (a lovely young girl) would have to do it. Alan did not offer to move them at all - in fact he watched why we moved them ourselves. !!!! To add insult to it all - we were moved to the THIRD floor on the OTHER SIDE of the building.

If you look at photos of the place you will understand why it would upset us - the stairs are very narrow and steep - no problem if we didnt have to carry our own bags.

We did ask if we could cut through the main living area with our bags to make it a bit shorter and were told no !! We couldnt believe that we were doing them a favour and they gave us no assistance whatsover!!!!

When we got the the room the house keeper was still cleaning it from the last guests who had only just checked out. The TV was smaller and the lounge suite was smaller so only seating for three - not four.

On the plus side we did get slightly bigger rooms, an extra bathroom, the beds didnt squeak and we couldnt hear any stomping above as we were on the top floor !

Breakfast was included and was nice enough. Some cereal, toast and muffins. There was also something hot that we couldnt identify so didnt try but others were eating it....

In short, the lodgings themselves were okay and for the price we didnt expect much more. The location again okay - a bit of a walk out of town but again - good for the price we paid.

What would put us off staying again is the way we were mucked around after agreeing to do them a favour! Never again.

I was a little nervous after seeing the exterior photo on the web; it looked like a dreary apartment building. But in person the exterior looks OK if nondescript and the immediate neighborhood is unobjectionable. And then we went inside and were impressed by the very friendly welcome and attractive, well-maintained interior. Our bedroom and bathroom were perfect, and we enjoyed the comfortable living room with plenty of places to sit, talk, and read. Breakfasts were not gourmet but were more than sufficient -- bagels and cream cheese, 3 types of cereal, soft-boiled eggs, juice, yogurt, sausage, and (one day) scrambled eggs. I'd absolutely stay there again, and while I've rated it 4 stars, it deserves 5 stars considering the price.

I was sticker shocked at the cost of Anchorage hotels, and found out B&Bs are the way to go. A highly recommended B&B on this site was full and suggested Arctic Fox.

We stayed 2 nonconsecutive nights between our cruise and Denali, and on the way back before our flight home. They are a few blocks from the downtown Avis office....and almost everything downtown is a maximum 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from Arctic Fox. The proprietors Judy and Alan made us feel at home and gave us great restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was made by Alan and excellent as reviewed by others. They even offered to make "breakfast to go" if we needed to leave early.

The rooms are functional and spotless. We had private baths on both stays, one was en suite, the other nextdoor. They also provide free WiFi that was easy to connect to and very fast. There is ample parking and I also noticed a coin washer and dryer that we didn't use.

Arctic Fox is a great value in pricey Anchorage; I will use them on my next trip which will hopefully be soon!

What a pleasure to stay at Arctic Fox! The accommodations were great, very clean, and great breakfasts. Best coffee we had on our whole trip! We stayed 4 nights and it felt like a home away from home. Allen was especially nice about steering us to fabulous restaurants and things to see. The location is really, really nice. The city center is within walking distance. The train station is 5 minutes away. There was very adequate parking right on the premises. You cannot go wrong staying at Arctic Fox!

Please do not judge this book by its cover. To look at this B&B from the outside you would wonder what you were getting yourself in to. But walk inside and the public areas have the charm of typical Alaska. When we stayed in June 2008 although some of the bedrooms were undergoing renovation, overall did not make this place any less inviting. The owner’s hospitality more than made up for any voids to upgrades. Again, upon arrival one wonders how this location could be considered prime, however we soon learned downtown Anchorage is easily walk-able from this area. As long as you are reasonably fit, you could walk to the Tony Knowles Trail and all points in between including the Anchorage RR Depot. Breakfast was excellent each morning with plenty of variety including pancakes with fresh blueberries and reindeer, yes reindeer, sausage. Each afternoon was filled with the smell of freshly baked cookies. Lastly it was the reasonably priced cost of this B&B which lured us to Arctic Fox; all I can say is between location, Alaskan charm and outstanding hospitality this place is a real steal! I would not hesitate returning.
