We stayed here for three nights on our tour of Alaska. We chose it for its proximity to the railroad station, which was invaluable for the early starts and late returns on the Coastal Classic and Denali Star. However, with convenience came very sleepless nights, as the trains pass through the station into the early hours, sounding its horn throughout the night. Also, the rooms are very warm and musty, with no AC, just a fan. In terms of hospitality, the hotel felt slightly soulless. Maybe it was due to the fact that we were visiting at the end of the tourist season, but the staff were not welcoming or interested. The style of the hotel was dated and not ‘grand’ in the slightest, as it’s name suggests.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel itself, but would recommend the location for anyone needing to catch the train... just remember to bring ear plugs!More
