Booked this trip while strolling though the city center. They promised a 4 hour "wildlife tour" which we would see sheep, bears and would be a "fun trip" per Debra at their office. So we signed up. This trip was awful. No sheep on sight, only two little tiny dots high up on a mountain which I could not even make out. Could have been snow for all I know. At the wildlife center, no bears black or grizzly as promissed. Two moose sleeping far away. No porcupine, i guess they took him out for luch. The whole trip was a joke. In my opinion, overpriced and over rated. the driver was nice and the vehicle too, but save your money and dont waste your time on this tour.

Hello Sue,

I am SO SORRY that our tour was a joke! It sounds like we may have overpromised in our excitement about the great time we've been having on the Turnagain Arm. Wildlife in the wild is never, ever guaranteed ( we have ZERO control over this aspect of Alaska). And in the Wildlife Conservation Center, the bears have such an amazing habitat (the largest in North America) that they are able to hide from our probing eyes when they are tired or stressed, which keeps them happier and healthier in the long run. All of the animals, including the eagle, elk, caribou, bison, musk-ox, porcupine, both types of bears, the owls, the lynx, and everyone else residing at the Center, are rescued from the wild, with the exception of a few that are born at the Center. So these are wild animals that now live there due to their inability to survive in the wild after an injury or being orphaned too young.

I will speak with my staff and make double sure that we aren't promising that guests will definitely see sheep and bears. It IS highly unusual to not see the porcupine however, so that's kind of strange. But since you were guaranteed to see the bears, I would like to give you a refund and hear any further feedback on how to make the tour better. It is one of our most popular tours, but there is always room for improvement in any endeavor.

Feel free to call me any time and let me know who you are and which day you went on our tour so that I can give you a refund. My personal cell phone number is 907-350-4869.

Thanks! We appreciate the feedback!

Candice McDonald

We had a great time with just 3 of us out for the day with Heather in a very roomy clean van. Heather knows and loves this area and was very informative about the sights we saw. We took the tram at the Mt. Alyeska ski area for some great views! Any wildlife we spotted Heather made a stop so we could see and get photos. Had a great lunch at Bake Shop and off again to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and some close encounters with their animals! We had time so Heather took us for an unplanned stop down to Portage Glacier... great tour and company!

We booked a day trip with Salmon Berry to go from Anchorage down to the Conservation Center. Our tour guide was wonderful and knowledgeable. When we spotted Dall Sheep, he would find a place to stop so we could take pictures. He also told us about local places to eat. We had a wonderful trip.

We took a 2 hour city tour with Salmon Berry on June 16th 2013-- we read many reviews for a variety of tour companies however decided to choose this company--
Our tour guide Katy was absolutely wonderful-- she was so thorough and answered many questions...she talked about the summer solstice and the darkness of the winter.....we stopped at Lake Hood sea plane base which was a great area to visit...a beautiful view was atop Flat Top Mountain.... picturesque views high above Anchorage..thanks for a great tour--we encourage you to choose this company---

Took a day long tour out of Anchorage (pick up from our hotel). It was in a minivan with approx 8-9 other people. We went down to Portage Glacier where there was a boat trip out to the Glacier face which was great, a stop for lunch (included in the price) at the Bake Shop in Girdwood and a ride in the cable car at Aleyeska, then a stop at the Wildlife Conservation Centre. It was reasonably pricey, but a great day out, so we felt we got value for money. The driver/tour guide (Heather) was brilliant, a mine of information and also gave us advice on where to eat when we were back in Anchorage in the evening.
