The twelve hours go quickly if you busy yourself watching for wildlife and scenery. Its also a flag stop off the grid. All scheduled stops are very short and you are not allowed to get off the train.

Aurora winter train is the Polar Express. We travelled south bound from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Breathe taking views, some wild animals. But most importantly, we saw her crisp and clear, Mt. McKinley. Extraordinary nice ride, with stop for snap shots (photos). The personal on the train were very friendly, service minded and knowledgeable. Overall I would say it was very good facilities on the train, food was really good.

Had an absolute fabulous experience taking the Aurora Winter Train round trip, with a 5 night stay in North Pole. Despite the cold temperatures and windy conditions, the ride was warm and scenery was unbelievable! I loved standing between the passenger cars with the windows open for clear and breathtaking pictures. Highly recommended for all!

we made the trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks in November and starting from checking in an hour before(like flights) to getting off the train, this is one amazing trip. They stop the train called wave in stops, where people are dropped/picked up at certain spots along the way. There's a viewing car, dining car and good seats in the regular coaches. They even make fresh coffee if requested. The staff is always announcing if they spot any wildlife along the tracks. Highly recommended for everyone.

Took the northbound Anchorage to Fairbanks 12 hr ride with some friends at the start of the season. Great panoramic views, friendly crew and lots of time to ponder.

Definitely for nature lovers with almost endless views of trees, hills and mountains (mostly snowcapped), lakes, rivers and its bridges. Lucky enough to see the fully snow covered Denali (Mt McKinley) since the guide said that most of the time it was "hidden." Train stops for photo ops on some points like the Hurricane Gulch.

The three meals can be bought at the Dining Car with coffee right before breakfast, minutes after boarding. Meals are not inexpensive. A local 8oz bottled water cost $3.

Worth trying if you have the time and patience. Plane ride costs much less and faster (1 hr vs 12 hrs!)

An experience of a lifetime-
