Plenty of active tourists spend some time enjoying Anchorage, AL. Few tourists know they can arrange a van shuttle to take a scenic hike at Flat Top Mountain which is near the city and offers great views of the area. The shuttle is based at the Downtown Bicycle Rental shop and in August 2014 was making one round trip per day for tourists without rental cars. The hike is progressive in difficulty with good views at several rest stops. The last 100 feet of elevation rise are more rock climbing than hiking, but a nice challenge for the athletic. Stopping at that last stage is fine for those looking for a good work out in the Alaskan hills without fear of bears lurking on the popular path.

The rental was so easy and the guys at the shop took care of everything. Maps are easy to follow and the bikes were in excellent shape. Price was good and we loved the ride so much. Took the Coastal Trail which was an easy ride but so much to see.

This place takes care of all your needs! They went over the map with us in detail and showed us an alternative route from the end of the Coastal Trail so we could see something new and go by the seaplane base. They also provided us with a repair kit free of charge. We got in about 20 minutes past our 3-day rental but they said "close enough" and didn't charge. I would definitely rent from them again!!

We quickly rented 2 bikes, received a map & excellent detailed instructions and were on way on the coastal trail. Within a couple of miles the views change and you forget you were just in a city. It it beautiful along the coast with many photo ops of snow peaked mountains across from the water. I did not believe we would really see wildlife do close to the city and I was wrong. About 5 miles into the trip we came across a mother and baby moose at a creek. They were less than 20 feet away. It was a very sweet moment to see them together. The trail has some ups & downs but was only really challenging at the end - be ready to gear down and get a workout til the top.

We were originally going to get our bikes form Pablo, simple because it was 1 block from the strat of the trail. It was drizzling in Anchorage, and Pablo's was not open at 9:00 AM. So we went back at around 4:00 when the weather was better, and Pablo was still not open. We called the 2nd option we had - a place opposite Pablo's by Copper Whale or something. They were closed as well. Thankfully the guy there said to try downtown. So glad we did. We were 2 adults 2 kids (age 5 & 7). The guys here helped us pick 3 bikes (1 dual), got us checked out for helmets. One of them was really nice, and said that we could have the bikes all evening since we had young kids with us. He even offered and took out photos for us. It is about 4-5 blocks from the start of the trail, but we were so glad they were open that we highly recommend them. We had an awesome bike ride started by such excellent service! Recommend taking water and a snack to eat on the trail. Our best pictures of the Chugach mountains were during this ride.
