“Really enjoyed New Years here.”
Reviewed January 15, 2011

We decided to take the Hilton’s New Year package this year. Two rooms in the western wing. Had the grandkids with us. Staff did a great job, best location ever for us, downtown, to view the fireworks, also very close to the heart of Anchorage and the central park area where all the festivities took place. No question, just short walk to perhaps 70% of the highest rated quality cuisine restaurants in the city. Hot tub, swimming pool, workout area, were super, grandkids gave this an A plus. Been in the Hilton a thousand times but last time I stayed there was perhaps 58 years ago. We live in midtown.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the complex is maintained today. Rooms were very quiet as well, particularly then, with all the drunks returning at three in the morning. The four majors in downtown are the Hilton, Cook, Sheraton and Marriott. The Hilton is by far the shortest walk to most of the stuff to see and do in downtown. Sheraton and Marriott are the furthest. Sheraton is a nice hotel too, except for the last year now they have had major labor problems with pickets everywhere. Three times in recent years we have did the Hotel Captain Cook for our winter getaway. Haven’t stayed in the Marriott, but our kids like it. Cook is probably the largest complex of them all, excellent hotel, but their swimming pool isn’t very good for the little ones, and it is too far a walk to the center of activities if it is cold out.

Even though I am still unhappy with Hilton for doing away with the name of its predecessor, the famous “Anchorage Westward”, after they promised to keep the name, we had such and good time and they treated us so well, they will be our hotel of choice next year.

We stayed for 10 days at the Hilton Anchorage. The staff were warm and accomodating and were very helpful in helping us with our plans on where to go in Anchorage. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had a corner room suite on the 9th floor that had a great view. We had breakfast almost every day in the hotel and it was always good. I will definately stay at this hotel again should we return to the Alaska.

We stayed at Hilton Anchorage for one night in July. The staffs are the friendliest we've ever had at any hotel. They are very patient and give us recommendations on restaurants nearby. The room is clean and quite. Get the upper floors if you can because the views are magnificent. The hotel is close to restaurants and shopping.

No free wi-fi, no free breakfast, hardly any channels, and you have to pay for parking. The room was fine, but you can get a better deal elsewhere I'm sure. Also the toilet paper is the cheapo, one-ply, scratchy, airport paper and there's no vent in the bathroom meaning it's all steamy after you shower. There is a gift shop, though, that sells stuff you might have forgotten, which is nice.

The best thing about the Hilton Anchorage has to be their very friendly staff. From the front desk to restaurants to room service and housekeeping - they were all pleasant and professional. Although the guest rooms could use an upgrade (still have old style TVs), it was comfortable and clean. The location in downtown Anchorage was very convenient. The food was very good - whether room service or restaurant.

The Entire West Tower is closed, they can't gt the heating/air condiioning to work properly. Room 540, the toilet seat won't stay up (ladies, you may cheer.....) and the hot water takes forever to get to the shower. Room 501, shower water is hot/cold, runs in 30 second increments.

Breakfast is however quite good. I reccommend the reindeer sausage, quite good. Beds are great, you can sleep forever...

Sadly, no transportation from the airport though only a 15 minute drive...ended up with an enthusiastic cab driver so it was a win after all. Second complaint was with the registration staff who can be described as professional, but not friendly or forthcoming with information for weary, but hungry travelers. The room was satisfactory - no complaints, but nothing special either (and I'm a Diamond member of Hilton Honors - can only hope all the rooms were the same, because if this was an upgrade....). The hotel is in two towers and the amentities - pool, workout room were in the opposite tower from our room. Decor in the lobby was very "Alaska" and the gift shop was stocked like a good local souvenir shop as well as having the forgotten items we needed. The location was superb, though not the view. If you are a walker, you could get anywhere downtown in about 30 minutes or less. I would likely stay here again when visiting Anchorage for the location.
