Lovely inn in a beautiful location. Clean, comfortable rooms. They went overboard to accommodate our unpredictable schedule and boy was it crazy and unpredictable. Very thoughtful of our needs. A definite stay for future visits to Anch.

The room was very cozy and comfortable with breathtaking views of the Alaskan range. The service was great and the hosts were friendly and engaging. Downtown location provided easy walking access to shopping, restaurants, train station, and walking/biking paths. The tasty complimentary breakfast had a wide variety of foods to suit everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

I have travelled a lot and been to many luxurious hotel around the globe.
This place showed me a new notion of luxury. I arrived in the night in complete darkness and did´nt have to many hopes for this place I must admit. But it all changed from the moment I woke up and was greated in the the warmest way by the In keeper Daniel. Eating (healthy) breakfast in his company next to the fireplace with a view of the ocean -what can I say- it made me feel so much at home away from home. I´m not kidding- the best thing about visiting Anchorage-beside from the stunning nature was just to hang out at the Inn and have cosy conversations with the Innkeeper ot the manager Glenn. This was a truly unique experience- their passion and genuine interest in you -well it gave me a complete new view on luxury. As much as I enjoy flying first class and five star hotels -this had the extra dimension of community and the feeling of being really looked after. Thank you Daniel and Glenn. Oh yeah one last thing -this is the first place i´ve stayed in with free wifi in rooms- they set so many standards that many hotels could learn from. Go there and experience it.

This is my third visit to the Copper Whale. It is as great as ever - convenient location (don't stay at one of the hotels, this place is far more comfortable, including for a business traveler), pleasant rooms, healthy & tasty breakfast, and right next to the bike trail if you want an early morning stroll. Wifi works flawlessly. Many of the rooms have a great view (ask for one of these). Rooms are in small groupings, so ideal for being close by to each other if you are traveling with a colleage or with friends.
Consider this place in the off season if business/education/government brings you to Anchorage. Government rates are available.
But most importantly, enjoy the comfort and the hospitality.

My stay at the Copper Whale was perfect and personal. Glen and Daniel were excellent hosts - always ready to assist their guests in any way that they can. The location is right downtown, just down the street from the best cafe in Anchorage, and it is also just a block up from the park down at the coast. The views from the main livingroom are fantastic. The breakfast each morning was delicious and fresh with lots of variety.
Enjoying a cup of hot tea infront of the fireplace...listening to Billie Holiday...a great place to unwind from the day.

Our team was coming to anchorage for the FREEZE project in January 2009 and when we knew that the event organizers set up our accommodations at this neat bed and breakfast right downtown, we were thrilled. But what we didn't know was that staying there was going to make such a big difference for our project and for our overall experience in Anchorage.

It will be redundant to say that the breakfasts were excellent or that the place is warm and cozy, but it is not redundant to say that the Copper Whale Inn is the kind of place that stays with you once you leave. We made some friends along the way and had some interesting conversations by the fireplace over breakfast. Glen (the manager), Daniel and the rest of the staff really went out of their way to accommodate our specific needs, and for this, we are infinitely grateful.

I will certainly recommend staying here

Even though we only stayed one night here and decided to move, we still have to admit this is a nice B & B in a convenient location in downtown Anchorage. You can walk to most downtown attractions and restaurants. Rooms are not big but tastefully decorated. We stayed in the second building. The one in our photo came with 4 post queen bed, a sofa, a good desk, internet access, private bath, nice linen, quality shampoo and soap. And there was a communal kitchen near the entrance with free tea, coffee, hot coca, etc. We stayed on the ground floor, so there was no view but the room opened out to a small terrace. The second floor rooms should have views over roof tops. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast the most – lots of variety and fresh fruits.

How come we have to move? The bed was problematic. The mattress was fine but the wooden bed squeaked every time we moved ever so slightly. What good was a room if we could not sleep? Next day we asked to move to another room. They offered one on the second floor in the main building for the same price. That was a smaller room with shared bath. No, thank you. We went somewhere else.
