This nice historic hotel is extremely convenient to town and all it's great places to eat. The front desk staff; Terri, Jessica, and Magda were all very kind and helpful. The room price was reasonable. The room was very neat and clean. Breakfast was tasty and done well. In summation I'd say the stay here was a blessings to us!

We stayed at the hotel during the Halloween event, with local paranormal investigators from IOPIA, Oct. 30th 2010. This was a fantastic time, we actually witnessed paranormal occurances while investigating room 215 with the team!
So much history, beautiful art, great location, good food, super clean, friendly staff. I will be booking a room for next year's investigation event!

Stayed for 2 weeks in the Historic for the second time in September 2010 having been there in 2008. The hotel had still the same friendly atmosphere, cleanliness was 100%, location was good as it was near lots of attractions and transport to other locations could always be found.
The staff were excellent and couldn't so enough for you ... like restaurant bookings (Glacier Brewhouse is the best we found) or cabs or a general chat at the desk! All in all we could find no fault with anything,
Would recommend it highly and will get back there again.

There are two completely different experiences of this hotel: it’s either a nice place or it’s a nightmare. The difference is due to room location and perhaps the day/s of your stay. We had the misfortune to have a room on the street-side of the hotel, and to stay on Friday and Saturday, both nights when the locals were really partying at RumRunners Bar across the road, then revving and roaring their cars around the neighbourhood after closing-time (around 3am). Definitely the nightmare experience as sleep was impossible. Adding to our discomfort was the fact that because of the noise we couldn’t open a window to let air into the stuffy (un-airconditioned) room.
Having noted TripAdvisor reviews that commented on these problems, I had actually emailed in advance to request a quiet room. But on our arrival we found this arrangement had not been kept. When questioned, the manager wasn’t apologetic and her explanation was very unconvincing.
Historic Anchorage Hotel might be considered quaint by some, but it’s the seedy quaintness of old-fashioned B&Bs in English seaside towns – though even they wouldn’t stoop to serving breakfast with cardboard plates and plastic cups. The only redeeming feature of this hotel is the self-serve waffle maker in the breakfast room. Having said that, I must add that Jessica on the front desk was probably the most friendly, obliging and helpful receptionist I’ve ever encountered.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone unless they’re prepared to risk the possibility of the nightmare experience.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for sharing your concerns.
I am sorry that your stay at the hotel was not to your satisfaction. We work hard to accommodate each and every guest's request. We take pride in our service. In this instance, we did not succeed and for this I sincerely apologize.
Yes, we are in the heart of downtown. The city has grown around us! Outside noise is a concern, and we are working closely with other downtown businesses to ease this challenge. We are confident of our progress and that soon our neighborhood will no longer detract from the boutique experience of the Historic Anchorage Hotel.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed the complimentary waffles. Best of all, I am happy you found Jessica, the most friendly, obliging and helpful receptionist encountered! Thank you again.

This is a nicely updated historic hotel in downtown Anchorage. We chose it because it was walking distance to the train station. If you enjoy staying in historic hotels, you will enjoy the rooms but be aware that the hotel is located downtown and there are several clubs in the area that are open until 2:30am. Also, it is located at a busy intersection which makes it a convenient location but also means there is more traffic. There is no air conditioning so you can't close the windows completely but there was a large fan in the room. The staff was very nice.

Absolutely lovely. An antidote to those big hotels. stayed 2 nights when arrived in Alaska. first 2 nights had a good, spacious room - last night put us in "the laurence suite," where wonderful legendary Alaskan landscape artist Sydney Laurence used to stay when in Anchorage. Fantastically friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary breakfast buffet just fine. It is in the centre of Anchorage so noisy Friday/Saturday nights (part of the ambience). the rooms are very hot and need to sleep with fan going. Fun souvenir shop next door - Grizzly Gifts - which is very reasonably priced.
If you have a car eat at the Flying Machine Restaurant in the Millenium Hotel Anchorage. The restaurant is situated right on lake hood. food is fantastic.

This hotel is centrally located in downtown Anchorage. Perfect for walking everywhere.
Quaint and comfortable hotel and the service and staff (especially Terri, the manager at front desk) make this my hotel of choice in Anchorage. The delicious breakfast that is complimentary is more like a full breakfast. If you are looking for great food try Glacier Brewhouse or Simon and Seafort's.
