Take half an hour or so to check out the wildlife displays and maps available here. The oversize 3-D map is great for getting oriented.

Enjoyed all the information but I really enjoyed the videos that they show every half hour. Bears, Gold Rush and the Earthquake were my favorites.

There are many informative exhibits here about Alaska. The film's that are shown are both educational and enjoyable. I highly recommend a visit.

This is a great place to learn about Alaska, the National Parks, wildlife and people.
The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful.
We had clalled them prior to our trip and had received some good information about "bear viewing" in the National Parks.
Because it was raining we stopped twice and saw three or four of their movies they offer; all are excellent.
Only negative is that it is in a federal building and you have to go through TSA like security to get in.

Because it's a federal building, you have to go through a metal detector. I wish they built a different entrance to the building to avoid that.

Once inside, it's a full on visitor center with informative rangers, museum quality displays, gift shop, and a movie. They have several national park passport stamps, but unfortunately, none for Katmai.

Well worth a visit, centrally located in downtown.
