Pierre & Vacances Residence Port Guillaume
Ranked #3 of 3 Hotels in Dives-sur-Mer

We booked our stay at Maeva Holiday Residence Port Guillaume through French Life. We have booked this way at other French resorts and have found them an excellent way of seeing France.
The information pack French Life supply tells you not to arrive outside the receptions hours of opening and to telephone ahead if you are to be late. Items such as bed linen and towels were inclusive, but television and 'cleaning kits' are optional extras.
Firstly the two girls on reception at Maeva Holiday Residence were most efficient, friendly, polite and helpful with our needs from arrival to departure.
I did a bit of research on Port Guillaume before we went and discovered it was on the site of a former Steel works! Any reservations I had were unfounded as the whole development as been so wonderfully transformed into an ideal holiday location.
Port Guillaume's appartment residences and mock fishermen's cottages surround the magnificent harbour and the site is well catered for with two excellent restaurants, a cafe bar, poissonerie, pizerria and one of the most friendly Boulangeries around.
Our accommodation was a six person appartment with two upstairs bedrooms and a bathroom. Downstarirs comprised of a second wc and a main room that doubled as a kitchen/dining area with a sofa that converted into a double bed. Patio doors opened to a balcony that over looked the rear swimming pool and had views out to sea.
If you are used to fivestar hotel rooms, then these appartments will more than likely not be your thing. Sure they could do with a lick of paint and more attention to the general cleanliness would be a good thing, but overall they are a good deal for families on a budget French vacation. We did need to do some 'hoovering' to tidy our place up, but it was no big deal and certainly did not get in the way of us having a good stay in Normandy.
Port Guillaume is also an excellent base for seeing this part of Normandy from the D-Day beaches to the wonderfull seaside towns of Houlgate, Cabourg and Villers-sur-mer who's blaze of floral displays I have yet to find a match for anywhere else. Inland you have Pont l'Eveque, Liseux, Caen and Bayeux that are gems awaiting your own personal discovery.
We really love this place and enjoyed the beaches around Cap Cabourg that are perfect for children to explore. Most of all the people are so warm and friendly. This is our second visit to this part of Normandy. Will we be back? You can bet on it!

This was a wonderful hotel/apartment complex. The apartment was clean and we had a view of the beautiful marina. You need to bring your own towels, garbage bags, and dishwasher soap and extra toilet paper as there is an extra charge for these. The receptionist spoke some English and was very helpful. We stayed in the hotel due to the good price and the ability to cook for our family. The indoor pool was great for the kids but they loved the cold beach the best. I would recommend this to friends.

We had heard fairly bad reviews about this hotel before we left regarding the accomodation. However our accomodation,a Fishermans Cottage, was clean and habitable, the houses had a village feel. The location of this resort is excellent, easy acess to a good beach via a bridge over the river, close to a beautiful marina. There were some fine resturants around the marina, but a short walk away along a promenaded sea front led to Carbourg which had excellent resturants and good shops. The resort had a very laid back safe atmosphere and the accomodation was good.

Beautifully planned with apartments and cottages for families, you must pre-plan for livability at this resort. Our cottage featured two bedrooms, a living room/dinning room with wood burning fireplace, kitchen with full sized dishwasher, full bath with separate WC room, and a semi private-back yard with patio, table, and chairs. It did not come clean. The front desk will sell cleaning supplies. As with the TV, sheets, and other linens must be rented. While the kitchen was fully equipped, it was clear that the previous occupant “cleaned” the dishes without using soap. As noted by other guests, the walls bore past stains, and the carpet upstairs was well past its prime. However, after washing the dishes and counters, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning the bathrooms, the cottage was a pleasant vacation spot close to the beach. A mini-mart, bakery, and various restaurants were all close by. An excellent restaurant specializing in seafood was a half mile away in the condominium complex by the beach across the bridge.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments via Tripadvisor.
We have carefully considered your feedback on the Maeva Residence Port Guillaume. This Maeva residence is part of P&V Holidays, the leading provider of self-catering accommodation in France.

Our customer’s impressions of cleanliness and good condition of our holiday homes are very important to us and we take particular care on the maintenance of our Residences. In the case of Dives Port Guillaume, we have recently refitted new carpets which we are sure will enhance the excellent quality of the uniquely located family cottages.

We are sorry that your stay was not entirely satisfactory and hope that you will choose to holiday in one of our residences or villages again soon.

We have been to France twice before this holiday and have stayed on Pierre & Vaccances sites previously, they have always been great. This time we booked through a company called French Life - never again. When we arrived at the resort the reception was closed. We found this a little strange. When we were given the keys to our house we were discusted as we walked in. The general standard of the house was filthy. When we reported it to reception they happily gave us an alternative house, this too was filthy only worse. In one of the bedrooms it looked as though someone had leant out of bed and thrown up! Once again we went to reception, they suggested that we try an appartment, a bit of a downgrade but if it was clean what the heck?! This like the others was dirty and badly in need of redecoration. Even the landing in the appartment block had whole sheets of wall paper torn off. We telephoned French Life who suggested we meet with the resort supervisor and that was all we heard from them! When we met with the supervisor they explained to us how they'd been asking for the accomodation to be redecorated and cleaned for a while.
I would strongly suggest that you don't book to go to this resort until you can confirm that every accomodation has been redecorated and deep cleaned, it was awful. I can't stress enough how bad it was. There was what looked like blood up the bathroom wall and a brown mark on the toilet wall. There were weeds growing on the patio, the bed settee was ripped, it was fowl

First of all, be sure that you arrive at the hotel residence before 5PM. Well, I did not know that and I could not check in until the next morning. I tryed to call their toll free number but could not reach anyone. I could not find anybody around that could help me to get my townhome. We used the internet to make our reservation and in our confirmation email there was nothing saying that there is a check in time or a code that you have to type to be able to get your keys. So, we had to go to a nearby town and find a place to stay which turns into a nightmare when you are traveling with small children. In the next morning, we went back to Maeva e were able to get our townhouse. The place was not clean at all, there were soiled linens piled in the living room, causing a bad impression when you open the door. You also have to pay extra to get towels. Be sure to bring with you some toilet paper.
The Maeva Resindence is located in a very beautiful area and the beach is very nice too. The staff, when available, is friendly and speak a good English.
