The town has a variety of signs posted around town and on buildings that describe some of the unique stories. I did this in the evening as it was getting dark to get a better feel for the stories. It also has at least 2 D-Day museums to see.

“quick visit but historical place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

the site is where the American soldier's parachute (John Steele) got stuck on the top of that church on D-Day , he pretented to be dead for 2 hours ! . There is a small museum nearby , worth your time! it is the Airborne Museum Sainte-Mere-Eglise .small fee but interesting movies and WWII objects and stories .

“Pretty town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

Lots to do, plenty of shops selling d day stuff, but also a lovely church with special stained glass windows. Had a lovely lunch in a creparie just near the square.

“A touch of nostalgia-from the movies”

It was wonderful to be in such a historic place. We drove through on the religious holiday and it was good to see all the activity.

“Charming Village”

Saint Mere Eglise obviously holds WWII significance, but outside of that the town is very accomodating with unique shops and restaurants for its visitors to exlpore. All set in the beautiful Normandy countryside!
