At first glance, the hotel looks like a beauty. It's a refurbished men's club and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The bar off the lobby is fabulous. Then we proceeded to our room on the 9th floor, expecting a respite from the hustle bustle of the busy streets below.
Were we ever in for a surprise. The windows kept out virtually no noise at all. I love the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," but not playing nonstop in our room. Sirens erupted constantly and loudly, as if we were on the 2nd floor. Trains rumbled by every so often, and planes could be clearly heard overhead. Luckily, we didn't spend much time in our room except to sleep. (Yes, I had brought ear plugs.)
Otherwise, the room was comfortable if small. The bed and bedding were excellent. We could have done without the portraits of the brooding Native Americans over the bed, though. And the lighting was dim throughout. The iPod dock on the stereo didn't work, and a staffer sent to resolve the issue couldn't. Also, no HD TV channels worked.
The staff was uniformly courteous, but there wasn't much they could do about some of the problems we encountered.
It's wonderful that the building was renovated into a hotel, but why skimp on the windows and noise insulation on a busy Seattle street?
