The Arctic Club Seattle - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Ranked #25 of 102 Hotels in Seattle
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 27, 2012

While offering all the modern amenities you expect from a Doubletree, this hotel leapfrogs over the sterile, bland sameness of most modern hotels, and gives you a glimpse of grand era in travel. The rooms are lovely. It you want the biggest, blandest, coldest, most ultra-modern room decor, don't go here. But if you want charm and elegance, this is a great place. But I mostly wanted to write a review because the service was so truly exceptional. I was in the room while my room was being made up and watched the care with which the bed was being made. Every staff person we encountered was just the right combination of accommodating, competent, professional and just plain nice. This place obviously has a great manager.

The Arctic Club Seattle - operated by the Hilton/Doubletree management is by far, the most interesting and enjoyable place I have stayed in downtown Seattle in many years. The former "explorer's" club, located on 3rd Ave in Pioneer Square is a real gem among the modern cookie-cutter hotels found in large cities. The 100 year old building has been completely renovated to a contemporary interpretation of its 19th century origins. Tall ceilings and windows, dark woods, large rooms and phenomenal bathrooms make the time spent at the property almost as fun as exploring the city. The service staff are all friendly and very helpful - to the point as if you were a member of the "club" rather than just another guest in a room.

I can't imagine staying at another hotel when in Seattle!

PS: My only small complaint is that the very efficient air/heating system in my room was a bit obtrusive - not to the point of bothering me but it is noticeable.

Room Tip: Corner rooms - are brighter and "cheerful" than the others. Higher floors a bit quieter.

This is one unusual place, festooned with carvings of walrus heads around the building and walrus heads above the room numbers beside the doors. They have successfully updated the 100-year old hotel and it is now in the Doubletree/Hilton chain, but the most unusual of them all, would be my guess. It's got a great lobby bar that was apparently stolen in the middle of the night by the drunken Klondike millionaires who formed the club in another hotel and were asked to vacate the premises. The rooms are very big and decorated in a modern version of that period. It's quiet, the beds are first-rate, it's within walking distance of both the ballparks and the downtown places like Pike Place Market. It's so nice to be in a hotel with some personality and there's nothing like this place anywhere.

This hotel took us into a world forgotten by modernity. We loved all of the decor, comforts, high class surroundings of this place. We celebrated our 38th anniversary here, and would do it all over again.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the ninth floor to avoid city noise.

From the second I walked into the hotel I was greeted with warm smiles and a friendly "hello." My fiance and I were staying in Seattle for just one night for the annual Seattle Firefighter Stair Climb and we were trying to find a nice hotel that was somewhat affordable for downtown. This hotel was not cheap by any means but it was reasonable compared to the other hotels in the area. The room was small but very clean and quaint. We were given warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival which I absolutely loved! I really liked the look of the hotel and the old fashioned style. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were a little too soft. Also, the traffic from outside was loud and kept me up all night. Suggestion...bring ear plugs. Our mini fridge was also making a buzzing noise all night long, which didn't help with our sleep either.
We didn't spend a lot of time in the room or at the hotel but the time we spent was pleasant. Always someone opening the door for you and asking if we needed any help or had any questions. We will for sure be staying at this same hotel next year.

Room Tip: A room not close to the main road or maybe as high up as you can get.

The Arctic Club is a quirky ex-gentlemans club which is now a Hilton/Doubletree property. Wonderful charm to the common areas, great bar (and barman - Hi Viktor), great staff, good location - no real minus points for the business traveller who is looking for something a little different from the usual chain experience.

Visited 5 or 6 times now - consistently comfy and no complaints.

Wouldn't go there with kids - would feel out of place and the access has steep stairs which could be difficult for little ones. Otherwise - 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have very high ceilings - but are a little noisy.

As many have said, the decor is charming and rustic. I really liked the wood beamed ceilings versus the de facto white spackle. Due to the steep hill, the main entrance is up several steps but there is an accessible entrance around the corner with an elevator to the lobby floor.

It's an excellent location and the presence of the valets and doormen deter the usual Pioneer Square junkies from lingering at the doorway.

The staff was helpful and friendly and available at all hours. Would definitely stay again.
