“Belltown stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

Our stay at the El Gaucho was decent. The rooms were basic and nothing special but it was clean and a fairly short walk from major attractions such as the Space Needle and Pike's Place Market. The experience could have been boosted with some basic comforts that most hotels have such as a luggage rack, a soap dish, etc. The staff at the El Gaucho was friendly. We were originally going to stay at El Gaucho one more night but decided to switch to another hotel instead. We were happy we made the switch, it was the same nightly rate but was more comfortable to us.

Just upstairs from Seattle's premier steakhouse and bar, our evening out was perfect when all we had to do was climb the stairs! Lovely, stylish, comfortable room with Bose radio, leather furniture, fluffy robes and fabulous bed. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Easy walk to Pike's Market, great shopping, Seattle Center. We will return whenever we overnight in the city.

I was in Seattle one night on business and decided to try something different from the large chain hotels where i usually stay. My decision was rewarded with a very pleasant stay at this quaint boutique hotel. The staff was quick and courteous and my room, despite being an online third party booking, had plenty of space and a fantastic layout. With only 17 rooms total and only one floor there isn't much worry about noise pollution and the complementary internet had fantastic bandwidth. Also if you are a younger person the location in the heart of Belltown is perfect for nightlife and an easy walk to the majority of downtown Seattle sights. For families and those less mobile the walking distance to both Seattle Center and Pike Place market is a little over half a mile, which is by no means a marathon, but could be difficult with a family in tow.

I have two tiny complaints and neither would deter me from staying again, which i definitely plan on doing the next time I'm in Seattle. The first is that the bathrooms could use a bit of an update. Second is the down pillow-tops on the mattresses can be scratchy if you are laying in the wrong position.

If you have the option, pass on some of Seattle's larger hotels and enjoy a night here.

The 50's motif was a fun lark, but El Gaucho's selling point is its location and knowing that you're getting away from the big chains. The room was clean ans spacious, with better furniture than it competitors (leather couch and armchair).

The service was decent, and the attached restaurant/bar is nicely upscale. Although I didn't get to see it, the fact that there was a contemporary movie theater in the basement was kind of fun. I'm spoiled, so I didn't give them points for the free coffee, tea & cookie.

The trade-off is the 1st-street rooms: Do you want to see the Space Needle, or be on the quiet side of the building? You can't have both.

This hotel was in an excellent location, the staff were friendly and the room was clean and spacious. I would definitely stay here again if I was back in Seattle.

A couple of tips, when you make your reservation ask for a room that does not face 1st, as this street can be a bit noisy. Also if you have any mobility challenges, you may want to steer clear of this hotel as there are many stairs to go up when you arrive. Lastly, check out the Innkeeper pub across the street.....great happy hour, and wonderful staff. There is also a patio at the back which was unfortunately not open when we were there.

Located in the trendy Belltown area of Seattle this boutique hotel has it's pros and cons. The hotel has been renovated over an 8 year period. The decor is trendy with a contemporary color scheme of brown and tan with plush white linens. Their designer has done a good job in making the best of the space in the rooms. The designer either left the bathrooms in the 1960 original design or created this look. The showers have been nicely upgraded with lush robes for your use. When booking your room you should consider that there are no king beds only queen beds available. Their staff is very friendly and offer a very personalized service with a full coffee bar in the morning from 5:30 am to 11:00 am and a self serve lemon water dispenser through out the day. The hotel is close to many good restaurants and other activities and away from the main core of Seattle. Like all urban hotels valet parking is expensive $25 for overnight. Quiet area. Good value for the price that we paid.

Room Tip: Queen beds only. Boutique hotel corner rooms are more spacious than others. This hotel is trendy a...

My husband and I were excited to step away from some of the bigger name chains and try a boutique hotel for our latest trip to Seattle. Unfortunately, the Inn at El Gaucho was not a rewarding experience. The room was small and dark, there were toe nails on the carpet next to the bed, hairs on the towels and floor in the bathroom, and the street noise had us up for hours in the middle of the night after the club downstairs let out. Several times we had to wait as long as 10 minutes at the front desk before a staff person arrived. Overall, given the price, we were very disappointed and will not be making a return visit.

Room Tip: Rooms facing 1st Ave are ridiculously noisy between midnight and 2am Fri/Sat night after the clubs l...
