Owner description: Walking along the Seattle Waterfront is a perfect way to soak up some Northwest atmosphere. Take in views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains while exploring Olympic Sculpture Park, the Seattle Aquarium, shops, and restaurants like Ivar’s, a local landmark, where you can watch the ferries load and depart while you eat.

We visited the Seattle waterfront as a part of our family spring vacation. Overall, the area is filled with interesting attractions ( Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe, Pikes Place Market, Carousel/Ferris Wheel) and many seafood restaurant choices. However, this city has serious homeless/panhandler issue in which many of the people can be aggressive and threatening. In our two days we witnessed crooks scamming money off of people for parking fees when they are not affiliated with the parking lot, homeless man vomiting while sitting along a main thoroughfare from Pikes Place Market to the waterfront, a SUV parked on the side of a main street with a back window busted out and all of the glass laying on the nearby ground probably from an overnight theft, people sleeping anywhere they can pitch a tent, and almost NO POLICE PRESENCE in the tourist areas.

This is a cool place to see and experience. However, one day really is enough.

We found the waterfront to be a great stroll among the Tourists, Workers, Locals & Seagulls !!Just turn right (or downhill) from Pioneer Square and you are there. The ferries were non-stop serving all the rest of Seattle & Islands. There are a heap of souvenir shops , eateries and play areas for kids and adults alike. On a sunny day it is a delight and worth a wander.

We ate at Ivars (kind of expensive but worth it) and fed the seagulls - one scratched my son as he was holding bread in the air.

But they really enjoyed it

Seattle waterfront is absolutely beautiful with plenty of things to do.You get a great view of the Olympic mountains, and if you walk up Alaskan way going away from the ferry terminal there are enough stores to keep you busy all day that lead to Pike Place Market and the Aquarium. The waterfront gives Seattle its character, I love it.

If you are visiting Seattle I highly recommend you make some time to visit the water front but you should know that this is a working port so it's very industrial and has not been developed for tourists. There are really good places to eat here, just not as many as you would expect. There are really great things to do here but again, not as many as you might expect.

The waterfront is easy to walk to from the city centre (less than 10 minutes). They have good fish/chip shops with plenty of fish variety that you will not find in English 'chippies'. They have 2 great seafood cafe style restaurants: The Crab Pot and the Fisherman's. Lots of great fish on the menu but more of a battered fish, fun, family menu feel rather than a higher end seafood with prosecco feel like the Blueacre restaurant up town.

The waterfront has a beautiful, traditional carousel, boat trips and big wheel (ferris wheel) that run day/night. I thought the wheel was over priced considering it costs the same to visit the space needle but the wheel looks beautiful at night when it's all lit up and I'm sure it costs a great deal to upkeep so i took a ride anyway.

Take some time to visit 'The Curiosity Shop' - there really are some truly spectacular things to see here and the kids we saw were loving it.
