Attraction details
Owner description: Kubota Garden is a 20-acre American-Japanese garden that was the vision of Japanese immigrant Fujitaro Kubota when he purchased the first 5-acres of logged off swampland in 1927. The garden grew to 20-acres and was developed concurrent with Kubota's landscaping business. He returned to the garden and continued its development after being incarcerated during WWII. In 1981, the 4.5 acre core was designated a Historic Landmark, and the City of Seattle purchased the garden from the Kubota family in 1987. The garden is an urban oasis, criss-crossed with streams and paths, ponds and waterfalls, rich with flora and fauna and a popular destination year-round. The garden is maintained by the City, and supported by the Kubota Garden Foundation.

“Scared off by signs”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

We drove to the Kubota Garden with full intent to spend a couple of hours. There were at least three large signs warning people to be careful. Next to where we parked was lots of pieces of broken glass, evidently from someone's windshield.
We are senior citizens who just from a two month trip to Australia, NZ, and a very lengthy and wonderful cruise. We decided not to tempt fate so we drove away.

“Peaceful Attraction”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

This park was very peaceful. It has nice gravel paths and then for the more daring, smaller paths that lead you through the wilderness. It is easy to get turned around and it did take some time to get back to the parking lot. There are Koi in some of the ponds. You could easily spend a couple of hours here.

“Beautiful park!”
Reviewed May 27, 2013 via mobile

This park is very scenic. There are hundreds of different types of plants. There are many main pathways and tiny paths that branch off from the main ones. The tiny ones were the best. The park had many rivers and bridges. The beauty of it can't be described by words. You could spend all day there. Just when you think it can't get any prettier, it does. There are waterfalls and streams and even a family of ducks. Do not go if you can't handle a lot of walking or rough terrain. Also beware of slippery rocks. Other than that it was a great place. A must see!

“Great place to spend an hour or more”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

We were looking for the Arboretum when we stumbled on this park. We took less than an hour to stroll around enjoying the trees, flowers, ponds and the biggest koi I have seen. Lots of cute turtles in the pond too. Starting in May you can even have a wedding here, I think that would be great, if not raining.

It was a great way to spend my husband's birthday, May of 2012. We will always remember that day. This park is a jewel.
