Attraction details
Owner description: Kubota Garden is a 20-acre American-Japanese garden that was the vision of Japanese immigrant Fujitaro Kubota when he purchased the first 5-acres of logged off swampland in 1927. The garden grew to 20-acres and was developed concurrent with Kubota's landscaping business. He returned to the garden and continued its development after being incarcerated during WWII. In 1981, the 4.5 acre core was designated a Historic Landmark, and the City of Seattle purchased the garden from the Kubota family in 1987. The garden is an urban oasis, criss-crossed with streams and paths, ponds and waterfalls, rich with flora and fauna and a popular destination year-round. The garden is maintained by the City, and supported by the Kubota Garden Foundation.

“Picnic with kids”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

My favorite garden and favorite place to go with the family and get lost on the many trails while looking at ponds and flowers alike. Bring a snack or picnic by a pond, bring a hand string kite.

“Beautiful midday walk”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Nice place to walk at lunchtime. Well designed paths make a small area seem much bigger. Nice variety of water features and bridges.

“A beautiful garden that should be on the "must see" guides.”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

A recommendation by a local took us to this beautiful, free garden. It is peaceful and well maintained and not difficult to find. If you are looking for a break to reflect or rest, this is a good place to go. There are benches, ponds and waterfalls.
