“amazing building!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2009

As an architecture photographer, I fell in love with this building. As a book lover, I was amazed at the books and resources they have available. Definitely worth a spin through if you're in the area. I admire a city that would put these sorts of resources into a public library.

“A Wow Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2009

Even if you're only in Seattle for a few hours, be sure to visit the astonishing Seattle Public Library, conveniently located downtown on 4th Avenue near Madison.

Figure on spending at least an hour walking around, going up the cool neon-lit escalators and
marveling at this huge, incredible structure. Plenty of quiet areas to rest, read your guidebook and take in the views of the city. Be sure to bring your camera for some wonderful pictures.

This is not just a marvelous library. It is a unique and unforgettable experience.

Far and away the most memorable of any attraction in this attraction-laden city. And it's free.

Thank thehoch

“World-famous architechture; this library is worth going to whether you're looking to check out a book or a building!”

If you can, get the tour and learn all the cool stuff about the building (e.g. the reason why the ceiling is padded, how the 9,999 windows save electricity, etc)

“An incredible building, do not miss.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2009

Amazing and intriguing architecture, and so user friendly. If you visit make sure you give yourself enough time to experience the building from top to bottom, take the elevators up and walk down the whole spiral. Probably at least an hour or two for most people.

Definitely take your camera too. Also interesting art pieces dotted around.

Plenty of seating areas, also a refreshment stand in the main Living Room on level 3 next to the gift shop.

“It's free. A good way to pass some time.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2008

We went here because my youngest daughter read the reviews and wanted to go. Since we were in Seattle doing the 'tourist' thing we added it to our list. I have to say I'm glad I did. It is just a library, and it's not like we were checking out books or anything, but it is free and it really is something to admire. Even from the outside you have to admire the architecture. It is definitely a one of a kind building, I haven't seen anything like it. The children's area is amazing, so vast, with so many selections and so much going on. The 'red' floor is okay, not as cool as other reviewers made it sound. It's just red, yay. The public computer area is amazing, they have like 500 free computers for the public with Office, Internet, etc...great benefit for the frequent user I bet. I would recommend just walking around, checking it out, and burning an hour or so. Why not, it's free!

PS: go to the 11th floor (the highest viewing point). The view is nice, you get to see the internal workings of the elevator system, and if you just LOVE heights, you can walk over to a spot where only a simple little metal rail separates you from a 100 feet of nothing. My wife couldn't wait to get back to level ground!
