“Get There Early”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

WOW....breakfast was fantastic. So many yummy choices and the fresh fruit bar is wonderful. Presentation of food was nice and the taste....goooood! This is a popular place and we arrived "early" to avoid the long wait....but even with a wait, the food and friendly service make it worthwhile. Next time in Seattle this will be a dining destination!!!

“Yum!”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Yum is right... I ordered the oatmeal cobbler french toast, which included a trip to the fruit topping bar. The french toast itself is challah bread that is coated with a layer of oatmeal cobbler (adds an extra crunch and sweetness) that I love. Piled on top is all the berries and pears and peaches w/ dusting if shaved almonds courtesy of the the fresh fruits toppings bar :) I also ordered a side of organic red herb potatoes & fresh squeezed oj - a lot of delish food (made great left overs too, ha). Everyone else in my party ordered coffee, eggs, toast, bacon & a side (possibly pancakes or french toast) -and they too enjoyed their meals. Service was great, casual, friendly and did not give the feeling of being rushed. Definitely a place any of us would like to eat again!!

“Good healthy brunch”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

My friend recommended this joint as brunch spot. Even on a Friday, this place was fairly packed with Amazon employees and other locals; but we had not troubles finding a seat immediately.

The menu offers a wide range of breakfast items. I tried the Rancher's breakfast, where I selected eggs, potatoes, bacon, and french toast. When you order the french toast, they have an open fruit bar to top your plate.

The fruit bar had a wide range of organic fruits: strawberries, blueberries, pears, peaches, etc. They also had tasty syrup too!

The peach tasted kinda weird, it had a sour / bitter taste to it. But that wasn't a problem because we washed it down with their Mimosa. It was a large portion of food and and a comfortable environment.

“Amazing Breakfasts!”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

This is a fabulous place for breakfast. They have a fruit topping bar at which you can select from a variety of fruits to add to your dish. I thought the gluten-free pancakes were OK, not amazing.

“My Favorite Breakfast in Seattle”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

I can’t say enough about how wonderful Portage Bay Cafe is! I live in Seattle, and continually go there for breakfast/brunch. It’s my favorite spot in Seattle for those meals.

The food is excellent at Portage Bay. They use all local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients in their meals. The menu includes delicious standards like, migas, omelets, and a variety of pancakes and French toast (including gluten free pancakes). With an order of pancakes or French toast, you can visit the “toppings bar” to add your choice of fresh, seasonal fruit, syrups, whipped cream, and nuts to your meal. The menu also includes different seasonal items throughout the year. My favorites are fresh veggie omelets in the summer and mini pumpkins baked with French toast inside in the Fall.

Portage Bay has multiple locations in Seattle, and I prefer the Ballard or South Lake Union cafes, as they are larger making it easier to get a table. It’s best to go early or when you have 15-30 minutes to wait for a table, as the cafes are very popular. They take reservations for large groups though.
