Bang Bar Thai Restaurant and Lounge is a great place for Thai food, based on one visit there in late August. Three of us were looking for a relaxing dinner together, and we started by sharing the fresh rice noodle rolls, which were accompanied by tamarind sauce, and a large bowl of Tom Yum with tofu. The soup and the rolls were good portions, plenty for three, and an excellent start to dinner.
For main courses, one of my friends had Chicken Lime Light, grilled chicken breast with a lime sauce over spinach, and another had the Crispy Garlic Chicken, a stir-fried dish with bell pepper and topped with fresh basil leaves. Both looked great when served, and the taste verdict from the diners was excellent. I ordered the Red Curry with Tofu, and it was delivered at my requested “spiciness” level (medium) and was very good. The brown rice accompaniment for the three of us seemed special – had a delicate and very pleasant “cocoanut” flavor, and when we asked if there was anything special about the preparation, we were told that the brown rice is steamed normally. In any event, the rice added an extra dimension to the dinner for all three dishes.
Portions were very generous, so we didn’t have room for desert. Wine by the glass was reasonably priced, and Bang Bar had several good beer choices as well. The service was excellent – very attentive. The food was delivered from the kitchen pretty quickly, so I would suggest advising the server if you want the courses slowed down a bit if you’re not in a hurry. All in all, this was a very good dinner with a large and interesting menu, very nice - and quiet- dining room with reasonable prices. A good place for friends to enjoy dinner together.
