“Hidden Hot Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

Well-known restaurant for the best fish and chips in town. Their weekend brunch is incredible - fresh alder-smoked salmon, oysters, clams, and dungeness crab. Beautiful location to watch the boats and eat outside in the summer. Fantastic Happy Hour!

“Still Wonderful After So Many Years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

I have not visited Ivars Salmon House in many years, so on our latest trip to Seattle we decided to try it again. It was easy to make a reservation online. It can be a little tricky to find if you are not familiar with the area around Lake Union. The food was as amazing as I remembered, although my side dish of butternut squash was served very lukewarm which detracted from it for me. The salmon I had was incredible, done perfectly, moist & the smoky flavor just right. My husband had the oysters & said they were also excellent. We shared a great seafood cocktail & a triple creme brulee for dessert that was de-lish! We want to go back for their Sunday Brunch which sounds something straight out of Vegas!

“Decent salmon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

Good views and you can get salmon here at a more reasonable price.  Especially if you use entertainment, Groupon or similar.

“What, no Decaf?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2012

For all that Ivar's longstanding chain has going for it: salmon chowder, corny jokes and tribal-inspired decor, you'd think that asking for a decaf espresso at the end of dinner wouldn't be a big deal. It's Seattle, afterall, and there is the Space Needle, right outside your window at the end of the lake.

On our most recent visit there, however, no decaf for you. Drip coffee, sure, but an espresso? Better luck next time. Coffee jitters aside, we were pleased to find some wine specials at half price for the week of Valentine's Day. The oyster special should have mentioned that the size was half-off as well, though. Tiny, briny little fellows that were hard to locate in the dim Ivar's glow.

The seafood salad was huge and had enough fresh shrimp to make up for the lack of protein in the oyster appetizer. Ivar's is best when it keeps things simple, and judging by the full house on a Saturday night, there are plenty of people who like it that way.
