Whenever we go to Seattle Opera, we stay in the neighborhood and have dinner at the Bahn Thai. As the opera starts at 7:30, we book for 5:45. The staff here are expert at dealing with pre-show diners. If they know you are going to a show, they make sure you have time to get there. The service is efficient although not rushed. We've enjoyed every meal we've had here. The menu has many dishes to choose from and every one is delicious. In particular, they do wonderful things with pumpkin! The staff are cheerful and friendly and the owner is charming and very hands-on, seating guests, pouring water, taking orders, and generally making things work smoothly. We had always had white rice with our meal but on our last visit he suggested brown rice. It's delicious, different from the brown rice we're used to. It's reddish brown and has a wonderful flavor and texture.
A recent reviewer mentioned that the service was "a bit slow as all the staff all hung out in talking with family." We've been to Bahn Thai a dozen times and have never seen anything like that. The staff are very attentive and we have never experienced a lapse in service. There are several reasons that this restaurant has thrived for over 30 years, and the excellent service is certainly one of them.
