The boathouse (downstairs) has a new look, new chef and menu. You can't visit Seattle without a trip to Ray's, the view alone is worth the visit then add fantastic seafood, service and the sexy new bar -you can't go wrong. Our meal was memorable and I will defiantly go back.

This is one of the premier seafood restaurants in
seattle and it's location provides diners with views of boats traveling by in Shilshole Bay. My granddaughter likes to eat outdoors above in Ray's Cafe when the weather allows. A bucket of clams or mussels is what she likes. The Cafe up above is less formal than the Boathouse down below, and the prices are a little lower. If you have purchased the Passport Unlimited dining card, Ray's is one of the restaurants (among almost 200 in the Seattle area) that give you a free meal when another is purchased and you can use the card as many times as you want.

Quite the drive from downtown Seattle to Ballard during evening rush hour. But well worth the effort, despite a view of blackness at night. The "complimentary" valet parking was a nice touch on a cool rainy night. We of course slipped him a couple bucks, mostly because we've rarely seen a car valet RUN to get our car before! I appreciate extra effort.

Started with the Crispy Calamari, the only dish that wasn't fantastic. Too oily, probably cooked at too low a temperature. So sue me.

But the balance of the meal was superb. A restaurant like this knows they need to start with the best seafood, the best produce. Orders of Seafood Pescatore and Asian Sablefish were shared between the two of us. Both were spectacular.

Nice atmosphere, typical waterfront wood-finished bistro. Waitstaff all knowledgable about the menu and friendly to a fault.

On the advice of a friend, we decided not to dine at the usual Seattle waterfront resturants and took the drive from downtown to Ballard to dine at Ray's and, boy, was it worth it. The whole experieince is great, from the lovely dining room looking over the sound, the excellent menu and the wonderful service. We both had the Pacific Northwest Chowder which as served hot and was very tasty. I had the Sablefish, and my partner had the Dungeness Crab Salad - nice portion size and very good.
We were particularly impressed by the exellent and friendly service which helped make the dinner on to remember. We will go again!

We have been going to Ray's frequently for many years. In addition to one of our favorite places, it's also our "go-to" restaurant for out of town guests. it's one of those few places where you could get a great view, great service, great ambiance and great food.

Not any more. The new "concept" has relegated a Seattle gem into a "me-too" small plate bar with mood lighting, bare tables, techno-music and food that consistently mismatched flavors. I would rate the experience overall as poor. When you compare it to what Ray's used to be it's more like a travesty....

"Went Downhill" got it right - the whole approach is disappointing. The new menu is trying to be two entirely different things (small plates one side, $75 tasting menu on the other) and the actual dishes are not well executed. Prices are now way high. The layout of the new space is off-putting - a collection of tables crammed into spaces at each end of the bar, whose glass walls break up the overall space to make it feel cramped regardless of where one is seated.

From consistently getting rave reviews from guests that I have taken there, I can only say I was embarrassed on my most recent visit.
