The decor at Nishino was pleasantly Japanese, the wait staff very friendly, but then disappointment set in. We chose not to order standard sushi and sashimi, instead tried some of the innovative sounding special chef creations. We tried the Morel & Squid with Asparagus, the Dungeness Crab and Mushroom Bake, Miso and Eggplant with Zucchini and Yam, and finally Halibut Cheeks. We were expecting a nice presentation and light, well-prepared food, but for lack of a better description, all dishes were heavy, fried, mixed-up glops. The halibut cheeks were like fish and chips; the other dishes were like bad chinese. We will never go there again or recommend it to others.

We're big sushi fans, but being new to the area, we've been relying heavily on recommendations from friends. A trial and error approach to Japanese in Seattle would be too time consuming. This place was recommended by our landlords, and was outstanding. Nothing missed. Great service, the freshest fish, creative and flavorful dishes, and nice atmosphere. We tried several specials, including the soft shell crab spring rolls, the ceviche, the tempura lobster and oyster special. All excellent. We dined early on a Monday night, and the house was nearly full when we left. Reservations a must. Highest recommendation.

I ate at Nishino with a couple of friends. We all must eat Gluten Free. The chef prepared multiple courses for us, that met our requirements. The food was very fresh and delicious. There was a mushroom soup I found particularly memorable. The ambience is relaxed and warm, and the service was very good.

Nishino is my idea of the ideal restaurant for a special occasion. Every course of our nine course omakase meal was delicious, many were quite original and all were interesting and varied, The fish was some of the freshest fish we have ever eaten and many types were presented including flouder, black cod, salmon roe, crab, oyster, lobster and artic char. The service also was superb also. Our waiter introduced each course and explained the ingredients and preparation. We never felt at all rushed, and yet never abandoned either. We also enjoyed a lovely Grgich Hills Fume Blanc which complemented the food well....altogether a lovely evening.....Probably the best Japanese meal we have ever eaten (and that includes two trips to Japan.)
