Love to eat at Toyoda's. Walking into the restaurant takes you right to the traditional Japanese restaurant. The food is wonderful and I loved sitting at the sushi bar and watching the master. I highly recommend visiting for a meal.

Really only the local Seattlites mostly know about this place. And they would probably kill me if they knew what a great review I am going to write - because then this place will be even busier than it already can be. Well hidden in N. Seattle on a main arterial street heading to the Lake Forest Park/Kenwood area, sits the unobtrusive Toyoda. Warm wood interior, classic L-shaped sushi bar, REAL sushi chefs, classic Japanese menu items, and just fabulous fresh sushi. Small, cozy, and always bustling, this place just has great food. So kill me Seattle.

It's tough to find really good sushi in the greater metro area. We have tried a number of the local sushi places which the locals say are their favorites, and Toyoda has by far stayed at the top of our list.
One of the most outstanding dishes is the spicy tuna bowl, it is a meal in itself. The black cod is also very good and consistent.
There are many sushi places in the area, but was always end up saying, "not as good as Toyoda".
With the family in tow, it would be nice if they did lunches, alas, can't have everything.
If you get there around 5pm when they first open, the service is very good, but as the place fills up, it does tend to slow down.

This is the one restaurant in Seattle that we frequent the most. Sit at the bar - freebies come your way, and you get to watch the guys at work.
The slices of fish are much thicker than at other places, and it's always fresh. The rolls are a little on the smaller side, but the price includes miso soup and a cold noodle appetizer, so it's worth it.

Note: they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and only open for dinner the other days. Arrive early for dinner if you don't want to wait long.

Get to Toyoda sushi a half hour before opening. You probably won't be the first in line, but you'll be able to get a seat. This restaurant is a tiny hole in the wall in an out of the way neighborhood. And it is insanely popular for no good reason.

Toyoda sushi is good, just not good enough to justify the hype. One experience common to anyone who has eaten at Toyoda is that you will inevitably be served something that hasn't fully thawed. If you can't get there early enough to stand in line for opening, just don't go. The long wait will probably end up in a less desirable table or corner of the counter. There ARE better sushi restaurants in the Seattle area for the same money.
