If you are planning to be in Seattle for a Thursday night, call in advance to guarantee your place at Fare Start’s Thursday Guest Chef Night. Fare Start is a nonprofit that offers job training and placement in the food service industry as well as meals for disadvantaged men and women in the Seattle area. The Guest Chef night, which can get booked up well in advance, is among the most interesting and impressive experiences you might find in Seattle, as local chefs take turns trying to outdo one another as volunteers from the community and local businesses wait tables. And at under $20 for a three course gourmet meal with discounted local wines available, it is both a great cause and a good deal. As my husband and I were leaving The Moore Hotel, the FareStart caught my attention. This place is awesome, FareStart is a facility that trains homeless adults in the food service industry. Corporations and volunteers (no tax dollars) help the staff run this operation, for more indepth info go to [-]

Turns out that the restaurant is open for lunch M-F. On Thursday nights they have a Guest Chef work with the students making a 3 course meal. We ate at the Thursday night Chef night and the meal was outstanding. This was a very classy dinner with linens, candlelight and even wine (for an extra charge). The dinner has a set price of about $19 per person, during lunch I was told it runs about $6-8.

This is an outstanding program, that serves really good tasting food, and at the same time is helping individuals to be self suporting.
