Loved the atmosphere of this restaurant and the food was amazing. I ordered the seafood stew and it had so much seafood in it with a curry soup base, yumm

“Very average for the prices charged”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

I don't know how you can mess up a piece of black cod, but this was particularly bland and over cooked.
The mushroom salad was good and I had a Cornish hen that was well prepared, but of the 6 diners, i was the only one whose dish was interesting.

Desert of salted caramel creme barely tasted of caramel, was too salty and had a lifeless whipped cream topping. Burnt butter ice cream was chalky and bland.

Add to that the unbearably poor ventilation that has you walking out stinking like the place and my eye glasses coated with a fine haze of grease, and the overall experience at $170 per couple without even a bottle of wine, was a miss.

There are far too many better restaurants in Seattle to go to Matts. Steelhead diner for one.

“Food is good, service not so....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

Very good food and an extensive wine list. Have been there two or three times. Will probably return although they seriously need to improve on their service. The sommelier was borderline rude when she forgot about us... probably got a more lucrative order from a big table behind ours. If it wasn't for the poor and slow service, I'd not hesitate to recommend this place. Unfortunately slow unprofessional service was part of our experience every time we went there. I hope people at the Matt's heed to this complaint.

“VISIT TO PIKE PLACE MARKET”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

We were looking for somewhere to eat with one of our Grandsons ( 25yrs old) when we were visiting this Seattle Institution of Pike Place Market. We chose this restaurant as it referred to the meals as " American". We each had huge sandwiches with choices such as stripped belly pork and short baked tuna. All were excellent and the deal was having a bowl of soup included in the price ( even though they referred to them as either a puree or a stew, for us they were still soups).
Two of us had the house red wine which was very palatable. On the first floor overlooking the water and the market.

“The Full Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

Interesting and unique selections in a classy, comfortable setting. Our meals--cheese small plate, seafood curry stew, ribeye, caramel pot de creme--were delicious! Service from Stephan was excellent. We were also so impressed with how the staff handled a confused, loud, hungry old man who wandered in and sat down. (He was given a sandwich and glass of milk, and gently escorted out.) Wonderful!
