Why wasn't I paying attention when friends told me about Ten Mercer? (Slap upside head). The interior is both classy and eclectic with dramatic liquor shelves that go to the ceiling and were said to have withstood our last big earthquake. I sat at the bar for one of the special and periodic wine tasting events. Tables on the main floor and in a loft looked pleasant as well.
The wine tasting event (reservations required) involved informative guidance from the vintner's representative, four extremely generous pours, and food pairings especially designed for each of three of these. It was useful and instructive to be able to taste the interaction of specific foods and preparations wirh each wine. Both the bartender and the owner introduced themselves to us when we arrived and freely answered questions throughout, so we felt particularly welcome and taken care of. Each pairing was just out of this world: There was a halibut pairing, one with duck, and the third with wild boar. I cannot tell you the specific preparations except to say that every morsel was fabulous (and was certainly far more food than I had expected.) Each dish involved much culinary creativity and skill, especially when you consider that each dish was created to set off the virtues of the matched wine. The chef has my deepest admiration.
I also had one of the "happy hour" plates beforehand-- a samosa with a fruit chutney, served with a green salad with an interesting and distinctive dressing. A companion had a heaping plate of french fries which, we were told, are generally fried in goose grease -- and that must be stellar. Happy hour glasses of wine (5$)are generous, and not limited to a single white and red, but rather, may be any wine you please.
Ten Mercer is a class act. If you prize good wines, remarkable culinary accomplishment, and an accommodating setting -- all reasonably priced, then pay attention and stop by Ten Mercer the next time you are in this part of town.

We visited on a Wednesday evening. Many other restaurants in the area were very busy, there just seemed to be a group of loud people at the bar yet we were seated upstairs. We were concerned to see we were the only people in the restaurant; probably not a good sign. Despite this, our entrees took FOREVER to come...the wait staff were so bored that they were topping up our water glasses whenever we took a sip from them! The food was OK, 2 entrees were good, 2 were poor. We did not return.

This restaurant is going to be rated right up there with De Mdici in San Diego for me. They serve a Steamed Clams in a Rich tomato based sauce that you soak up with bread that is so good we went back the next day and ate it again. They also serve FABULOUS Lemon drop and blueberry Martinis! Met the owner the first night (sorry can't rmbr his name) and just really loved this place.

Were in town for two nights and this was right next to our hotel.
Salads were interesting and the fish (salmon, halibut) were both good.
Service was very quick and helpful.
Nice selection of beers/wines.
Will come again if in the area.

We were in town for just 24 hours before our cruise. Ten Mercer was within walking distance of our hotel so I made reservations here. Excellent Choice!!! There were four of us dining so we had lots of opportunities to try all the delicious food Ten Mercer has to offer and everything we tried was fantastic!

We started with the raved-about Pancetta-Wrapped Almond-Stuffed Dates and accompanied with a local Claret wine by Robert Karl which our server suggested to us. It was a perfect pairing! The wine enhanced the dates and visa versa. The dates were sweet and a bit mushy on the inside so the wine really made the dish for me.

We also ordered the Wild Green Salad with grilled pears, pancetta, grapefruit, candied nuts, Stilton vinaigrette. I had them hold the grapefruit as there was a lot going on in the salad already and I don't like grapefruit. Yummy.

Next came the Bay Scallop & Prawn Posole which we had with a flight of local Ste. Chateau Michelle & Dr Loosen's Reislings (a 2010 & 2007) which again, were a nice pairing.

We also ordered the Oven-Roasted Penn Cove Mussels which were fresh and tasted like it. Another standout appetizer we ordered which was probably the favorite of the night was the Applewood Smoked Sturgeon which was accompanied by toasted seed bread, herbed avocado cream cheese, roasted red pepper vinaigrette. OH MY - just a party in your mouth!

Another favorite of the night was the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with tamarind rum glaze, herbed avocado cream cheese, chipotle tortillas. Wish this would have been a full meal it was SO good!

Well, as you can tell from this review, we were HUGELY impressed with Ten Mercer. Excellent from start to finish. GO!
