An enjoyable day wandering around the city. Showed us the highlights and being on a trolley rather than a bus was great. Enjoyed the markets, the Seattle Centre, and much more. Recommend it to anyone visiting the city as alternative to the traditional buses.

This hop-on hop-off trolley service is an enjoyable way to get an overview of the city. We went in late September, so the frequency wasn't great, once every half-hour. There are various hop-on hop-off stops throughout downtown and on the waterfront as well as Seattle Center, so you can get to most locations fairly easily.

The guides were both informative and we learned interesting tidbits bout the history and development of Seattle, as well as things to see and do. One of the guides was somewhat unkempt though, with stained and wrinkled clothing, which I found off-putting. Otherwise, everything was fine.

An excellent way to get around several of Seattle city's attractions. The Emerald City Trolley Scenic Downtown service is hop-on, hop-off and travels in a large loop stopping at the Pike Street Markets, Seattle Centre, EMP Museum waterfront, Argosy cruises and Pioneer Square - to name a few stops. One can also change onto on of the other two trolley routes at the EMP centre stop. I took a day ticket and was able to hop off at the Seattle Centre, Aquarium and Pioneer Square before hopping on again to the Sheraton Hotel stop (near where I was staying). There is a driver and a tour guide on board - who gives an entertaining and informative commentary. The trolleys can be packed, and I imagine it would be possible not to be able to get on. With a trolley every half hour though the wait would not be unbearable. The ticket seller at the Space Centre was most helpful and sociable. A positive experience

You can save a lot of money by booking this on your own on-line instead of through the cruise line but BEWARE, the cruise booked passengers get exclusive seats on the first trolleys, so it can be difficult to get a seat after that. Once the cruise ship trolleys make one round of the tour, then anyone can get on them but they were crowded all day long...we stood 70% of the time. They definitely need more trolleys when a cruise ship is in port. Younger riders were not very nice about giving up seats to the elderly either. I know of one 78 year old who stood most of the time...my dad :( Another thing to BEWARE of is that some of the loops do not run every day so ask the guides because the brochures are not up-to-date. Also, the trolleys are open air and Seattle can be pretty cool, so wear a jacket. Not for wheel chairs or those who cannot climb up a 12 inch step. The best thing about the tours is the guides...they were excellent with good humor. Best stops: Pike street market and the Space Needle. They literally went the extra-mile to get us back to the cruise ship when a train was stopped for a long time across the tracks. Also, they recommended an 'Underground' tour which is probably affiliated with the tour company...those who went said they enjoyed it very much...(several seattle buildings have an additional floor underground that was covered up when they raised the level of the city.)

We visited Seattle in August and took a ride on the Emerald City Trolley. Several trolleys continue to make the loop around downtown. You can get on and off whenever and wherever you like. Not super cheap, but it was a good way to navigate around downtown and learn quirky facts along the way. You can buy a one day or two day passes. The trolley runs all day and into the evening.
