The best way to visit Blake Island is by private boat but Argosy offers tours/dinners during the spring/summer. It is a great place to let kids run free.
Last weekend we visited with 40 other people on 18 boats. You can rent a shelter and there are BBQ facilities but no lights or power except in the toilets. We bring a generator and lights. There is a large elevated fire pit with a hood in the shelter and 6 large bench tables. The scenery offers the Seattle skyline, Mt. Rainier, marine traffic and both sunrises and sunsets.
The marina is available on a first come basis so visits during the week or arriving early on Friday are recommended.
The resident ranger, Paul Rupert, does an excellent job of maintaining everything and making sure all regulations are adhered with. This has rubbed some visitors the wrong way (read negative reviews) but without his diligence, the park would not be the great place it is. He has our full support!

Most visitors to Blake Island go for the salmon bar-b-que and Indian dancing. Skip this and hike the many trails, many leading to campsites. Take a picnic and explore the beach or set up your shore side camping. Truly a great, quiet destination with a marina if you travel by boat. The island is entirely walkable. Otherwise you can take the Blake Island tour boat from the Seattle waterfront, specifying Travel Only. Go!!

I almost hate to share this one, because it already can get a bit crowded on weekends and nice summer days. I have only been visiting the island for 60 years, and it has not yet disappointed me. 5 miles of hiking trails if you want exercise. The area next to the marina is beautiful and the view towards Rainier across the water is a real favorite.
Food is available but in my eyes overpriced at the native American center "Tillicum Villiage".
The only way to the island is by a significant water crossing & the sound can kick up quite a bit, so be careful if crossing in a little boat.

Park rangers were very helpful about how to protect food from wildlife and always available for questions. In a freak accident, I hurt my knee badly when I tried to jump up to get a Frisbee. The head ranger radioed Argosy the next morning and arranged for a wheelchair to get me at the boat ramp and then on to an ambulance once back in Seattle. He also came down to the campsite with his truck and another ranger to give me a ride up to the boat launch. He then checked back with my party multiple times to see how I was doing. Really great personal service from the entire Blake Island staff of rangers and volunteers at the dock. On top of that, it was a beautiful place to spend the 4th of July, seeing fireworks all over Puget Sound. A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE STAFF from the Lawrence family!

We had a great time. Beautiful place. As others have said. Obnoxious, over zealous Park Rangers. At 6pm they felt the need to remind us to not use the fire pit after 10. What? I will be in bed by ten. They are constantly present, making sure you paid, reminding fof rules, etc. Other than that, this is a great place for hiking, kayaking and beach walking. Loved it.
