“Watertown is a great value and a well-run boutique hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2007

We stayed at the Watertown over the 4th of July, and had a great time. It's a modern hotel with lots of amenities---bikes that they loan you, auto parking included, complimentary breakfast, free movie DVDs, etc. The rooms are nice and modern, and the corner room where we stayed had a peek a boo view of Mt. Rainier. We rode the bikes on the Burke Gilman trail that's about 5 blocks from the hotel. You can go in either direction on the trail towards downtown or away from it. The University of Washington area is nice, and about 10 minutes drive from downtown.

Service at the hotel is very good. The front desk staff is helpful. I'd recommend this hotel if you don't have to be right downtown in Seattle and want to save a few dollars.

My wife and I travel to Seattle four or five times a year. As a couple that enjoys boutique hotels, my wife and I found the Watertown Hotel to be satisfactory, but certainly nothing to get excited about. We usually stay at one of the Kimpton Hotels (there are three in Seattle), but all three Kimpton Hotels were sold out for the July 6 to 8, 2007 weekend due to the Kenny Chesney Flip Flop Summer Tour 2007, so we looked over Seattle hotel reviews on Tripadvisor. The Watertown Hotel was the only top 5 rated hotel in Seattle with a room available (they told me on the telephone it was their last available room), so we booked the room for $185 (plus tax) per night.

The Watertown Hotel is located in the University district, about six miles north of downtown Seattle. It is a safe area with plenty of restaurants located within walking distance of the hotel. Our room, like the property itself, was clean and well looked after. The room had a comfortable King bed, basic washroom, tiny fridge and a small television set. Our room was located off the elevator lobby on the fifth floor, so there was a lot of hall noise until well past midnight both nights of our stay. There is free, secured parking, located under the hotel for hotel guests, but the parking stalls are tiny and the ceiling only six feet, six inches high, so larger vehicles may have problems parking. Also, the breakfast selection was not satisfactory (limited items, with no fruit or healthy eating options), so we wandered over to the Farmer's Market (five blocks away) for breakfast one morning and we drove to the 14 Carrot Cafe for beakfast the second day (located a couple miles from the Watertown Hotel at 2305 Eastlake Ave E on the way to downtown Seattle).

In summary, we would stay at the Watertown Hotel again, but it will never be our first choice in the Seattle area.

Watertown Hotel is the place to stay in Seattle if you like excellent, friendly service from the entire staff, very nice rooms, and convenient location. We had a marvelous stay there last weekend. The hotel offers many amenities as you will see when you look at their website. It even offers complimentary shuttle service to the downtown area and free use of bicycles. There is a wonderful bike/walking trail (Burke-Gilliam Trail) about four blocks from the hotel.

If we ever have the chance to return to Seattle, we will definitely stay at the Watertown again!

We found the Watertown after a terrible experience at the University Inn. We paid the book rate of $185/night and it was worth it. The room was modern, luxurious, and the bathroom had a great spa feel.

Great amenities with Starbucks coffee in the lobby, beautiful complimentary bathroom, and exercise room where you can use their bikes to ride around. The university campus is a stone's throw away as is the delicious Portage Bay cafe.

Located near the university, this hotel has all of the amenities and services that any business traveler would need. There is free wireless in rooms and a complimentary breakfast bar with healthy options and eggs and bacon served after 7 AM. The fitness room is well maintained with multiple treadmills, weight lifting machines, and some free weights, and there are bicyles available for exploring.
In the evening there was free wine tasting in the lounge. I tried the complimentary spa "ala carte", which came with Tazo tea, soothing
music, bath products, and a hand massager. The furniture in the rooms
is contemporary and very comfortable. There's a refrigerator and microwave oven with popcorn and extra coffee and tea. The staff were friendly and very helpful. This is definitely one of the best hotels that I've ever stayed at for business and quite a bargain, given the rate on the hotel website.

The Watertown lives up to all the positive reviews-modern, clean, spacious rooms with helpful friendly staff. We used the shuttle quite a bit and found the 2 shuttle drivers to be really nice guys willing to pick you up as required around town. I asked for the internet cart and got a computer, printer etc at no cost. I love being connected so for me this was a huge bonus. I was surprised tho that I had to give the computer a clean-it was filthy!!! Surprised because everything else was so clean. We went to the wine tasting and enjoyed some nibbles with it. On the recommendation of staff we went to Ivars which was in a great location on the water with views of the city. The food was mediocre and the waitress appalling so I cannot recommend this restaurant-I expect good food and service for the prices we paid.
I would absolutely recommend the Watertown-a modern funky hotel in a nice locale, free shuttle-what more could you ask for?

We loved it! Large Retro rooms w/ nice view from the upper floors. Plus FREE bike's to use! We spent all morning biking down to the water-front and along the Seattle bike-path. Its a 15-20 min. bike ride to the water-front w/ a few busy intersections; but once you get down to the water-front its really a great way to see the city. Coming back is slightly up-hill. And the restraurant just down the block from the hotel (The Portage) is Fantastic.
In fact, the Portage does a FREE wine sampler in the hotel eatting area a few nights a week. They also serve tasty appetiziers which we made a meal out of....

FYI: Once you are down-town, on bikes, it's a 1 or 2 block walk uphill to see the Pikes People Market.
Lock the bikes up where everybody else does....

Great Breakfast here too! Plus they offer a FREE "cart" service. ie" We wanted more books to read, at the end of our trip, so they sent up the "Book Cart" which had like 20 books and we swapped out a few. They have a video cart, a computer cart, a kids cart---etc....15 different carts.

  • Liked — Free bikes; good breakfast; retro style
  • Disliked — Not a big deal but staff is a bit inexperienced....
