“awesome place”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

This is a place, in an alley.. with a door. No joke. Very tiny. has a bar upstairs, and a downstairs. All with very limited seating. Arrived around 1 am and left around 2 am. Very awesome little place. Definitely would recomend this gem of a place off the beaten path. They also have this thing where you tell them what you want and you get a customized drink from the bar tender.

“Speakeasy that works”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

This is a very cool place. You would never know it was there if you didn't see the massive queue outside waiting to get in. Fortunately the wait isn't normally too bad however due to the extremely small size of the bar it is possible.

This is a small yet efficient operation. There is one doorman, one bartender and one server. The drinks menu is extensive to say the least. The staggering list of gin alone is enough to interest any well intentioned ginhater (like me). The cocktail list is fairly standard with a few interesting twists however there is one notable item: Bartender choice. Normally this would be a gamble that I would pass on however here it paid dividends. The server came over and I told her the type of booze I wanted and gave her a few loose details about my preferences and she was off. What arrived was a finely crafted drink, in fact the drink I had was so delicious (yes gin based) I had to return a couple days later to verify. It was true, that place rocks, the bartender is brilliantly talented, the doorman is very friendly and full of great local info and the service is efficient.

The venue is small, it begins on a staircase with two choices, up or down. Normally the doorman tells you where to go becuase he is managing the very small space to maximize capacity. Up is the bar where you can see the man work his magic with one small table a few chairs around the bar and a rail to lean on. Downstairs under the stairs is the bathtub (much smaller than I pictured while waiting outside) a few tables in what was once maybe a small basement room which leads to another very small room called the library. This room has some books on the walls but from what the doorman said before we entered, nowhere near as nice of books as they had when they first opened. Apparently patrons were so taken with the decor that they took samples of it when they left forcing them to be replaced by less interesting and sometimes staged replacements.

To sum it up, treat yourself, you deserve it. Take a date there, go with your mates just don't try to rock up with too big of a group.
