“Mazi: A Local Gem”

For some months friends of ours had said we should visit. Being celiac (gluten free diet) I don't tend to visit greek restaurants since so many of my past fave's are now off limits. I am glad my wife suggested we try it. The food is a mix of classic geek influence (feta, olives, simple fresh ingredients) and a global twist. They we were aware of gluten free dinning and able to advise me on what items would work. Cocktails are great, food was excellent and service friendly and efficient . It was not particularly crowded so I can't say if they have perfected service when very busy. It was my best meal in some time, however and the quality/price ratio earns it an excellent on my list.

“Greek Goodness”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

This was our first visit to Mazi, a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and bar. We choose to sit at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The two bartenders were friendly and talkative. The drinks were strong and the pita bread and 3 sauces appetizer was the best $11 I've spent in a long time. The huge mirror behind the bar makes the room seem larger, and the overall decor is classy and inviting. All in all a wonderful night. We can't wait for our next visit to Taverna Mazi.

“Unfortunate service and experience”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We used a Groupon which included an appetizer, two entrees & one dessert. We were told that they were out of the dish we ordered for one of the entrees and so we had to choose another. The waitress then told us that they would "comp" one of the entrees, which didn't matter since we paid one price for the entire special. The moussaka was terrible - tasteless, soggy, watery. Then we saw that a couple next to us who had arrived AFTER we put in our order received the very entree that we were told they were out of! Finally, when we got our receipt we were still charged for both entrees and never received the dessert which was part of the special. Service was very slow as well.

“What a pleasant discovery”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

This was our first time to Taverna Mazi, and we were delighted to find another truly fine Greek restaurant. The menu contains several authentic Greek dishes which go far beyond the normal fare at most Greek eateries. The food was delicious, the portions generous, and the prices quite reasonable. We had a warm and quite helpful server, who readily made recommendations regarding the menu. Our only somewhat negative comments would be that the tables are a bit close together, and depending upon where you are sitting, headlights from the street can hit you. Contrary to another review, we found the house wine by the glass reasonbly priced at $6 and the serving size far from small. We will definitely return.

“Good food, spotty service”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

We returned to Mazi for a Friday night dinner. The service was not as good as the previous time we were here. It took 20 minutes to get a drink and 45 minutes for our first course to arrive. Then, five minutes later, the next course was on the table. The house wine, 4 ounces, was $8, which I think is a little on the spendy side for a neighborhood taverna, house wine and not a real generous pour. The food was pretty darn good, except maybe for the beet salad, which was a little bland. Lamb dishes were very good. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
