This attraction is REALLY gross. It's exactly what its name is. Still worth a visit though. Make sure to bring your own gum to add to the wall. A little bit difficult to find, but most people are very friendly and can point you in the right direction. (:

“" Deja vu"”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

While sitting at the bar at the Alibi Room for a late afternoon beer with my boyfriend, I noticed a section of a window, looking out over what appeared to be tons of chewed gum on a wall. Not again! Having lived in San Luis Obispo, Ca. for over 25 years they have what is called "Bubble Gum Alley" with the same disgusting, chewed gum plastered all over. Why would there be another place in this world that felt the need to promote such a gross tourist attraction??

The bartender overheard my conversation with my boyfriend, and explained how it started - in the 1920's there was a theater right next door, and before people could enter he checked their mouths for gum - if they had any it had to be disposed of immediately and patrons started placing the chewed gum on the wall right outside, so the tradition started. The 2 star was for the nice bartender who shared that information with us. Still gross.

“Fun fun fun!”

This is a gross but FUN iconic piece of Seattle (pun intended!). I will admit to contributing a time or two, myself! If you are going into it knowing what you are looking at - chewed up gum - you will enjoy the whimsy and "ew" factor at the same time! Enjoy your visit and DO go at least once!

“Why do people like this?”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

I live in the Seattle area, and have of course been by the Gum Wall several times while down at the market. However, I would not say it is a destination at all. It's actually very gross. Maybe from a distance it is cool with all of the colors...but the closer you get, you realize the gum came from all of those people's mouths. Ewwwww!!!!! There are much better and exciting things to see in Seattle. But I guess if you are "in" to weird and gross things, it will literally be just up your alley.

“so nasty”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

I can remember this thing years and years ago and as a little kid it was icky, but as a grown adult who's germophobic, it was just flat out gross. maybe if they sprayed some lacquer over it and locked all that nastiness in it would be okay.
