It's always nice when a restaurant that's so highly recommended exceeds your expectations.
This one definitely did. Yes, it's noisy, yes, you'll have to wait and yes, it's worth it.
Especially if you like oysters, which are served simply, over ice with champagne vinaigrette and fresh grated horseradish and lemon slices. But oh, so fresh, so wonderful. And the service is just marvelous. We sat at the bar and our server who was also the sommelier (if you can call it that - this place is so perfectly casual that it seems strange) was incredibly helpful and professional. We also had tomatoes in vanilla and olive oil - yes vanilla - that were totally perfect, and a spot on steak tartar. All of the wines recommended by our server were perfect - they weren't on the menu and often when this happens in Canada, you know you're going to be shocked when you get the bill - but in this case, he recommended affordable, wonderful, french wines. If we lived in Seattle, we would eat there on a very regular basis. This restaurant is almost perfect in every way - music, decor, service, fun factor and of course most importantly, the food. Oh and yes, it's a long walk down the hall - part of it's unpretentious charm.
