I was lucky enough to stay at the Maxwell for four nights during its inaugural week. The rate was a bargain, the parking and internet were free, the rooms had two queen beds and there was even a small pool, all of which are hard to find in this neighborhood.
It promises to be a popular hotel with young, hip customers. The attention-seeking decor features circus colors and reflects every design fad of 2009. It's very of-the moment. The staff was well-trained and made the stay particularly pleasant. Oh, and the free coffee and cupcakes are, well, the icing on the cake.
