“Must see!”
Reviewed April 14, 2014 via mobile

How many music museums do you see, let alone in a Frank Gehry building! Splurge on the audio tour - it's really handy in the guitar gallery where you can hear samples of various types of guitars through thir evolution. If you are a fan of Hendrix or Grunge, it's definitely a must see.

“Loved the museum”
Reviewed April 13, 2014 via mobile

Visited the museum after visiting the space needle. Both cost $20. The museum is worth the money with lots of great things to suit all. Si-fi, horror, fantasy and music. Only takes a couple of hours to do but worth the visit. If on a budget my recommendation would be to go to the museum and give the space needle a miss.

“The outside of the building is interesting...”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

We had high hopes for this Museum. A confusing layout inside with poor signage made for a frustrating experience. We were looking for the coat check and it took an age to find.

Jimi Hendrix exhibit was interesting, but very small. Really liked the guitar sculpture on level 2 and the photo exhibit. But disappointing overall. Somewhere between poor and average.

If you like photographing architecture there's plenty of fun to be had outside!

“Interest for everyone in the family”
Reviewed April 10, 2014 via mobile

Our family is mixed on museums two of is like to read and take time to experience the exhibit the other two just like to look and typically finish quickly. Today all of us could have spent the entire day and enjoyed all the EMP had to offer. A must see even if you are in Seattle for just one day.

“A Must-See for Rock Fans and Comicon Nerds”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

This is a very cool museum. It was my second time here. They have made quite a few nice updates since my last visit. There is an amazing guitar collection, and lots of Hendrix/Nirvana memorabilia for the rock fans. Also an interactive music area on the third floor where you can record. And now they have separate areas for fantasy, horror and sci-fi for the nerds. I am a rock fan and a nerd both, so I was in...Nirvana!

In the horror area they have a shadow creator that is a lot of fun. It allows you to cast bizarre shadows so that you appear to be a scary creature. And they have a scream chamber where you can record your loudest scream...and the expression on your face while screaming.

There are many items that were used in the filming of various series and movies going back for many years. I especially liked the Star Trek phasers.

It's right by the Space Needle and can easily be covered in 3-4 hours (depending on crowds and whether certain activities are open). It looks like they are working on a new area for music videos which should be really cool.

TIP: Get there right when it opens and go straight up to the third floor. That area gets overrun later, especially if they have school tours (which they often do), making it impossible to use the exhibits.

We stayed at the Maxwell Hotel, which was an easy walk to the EMP, so can't comment on parking. You can check your coat/umbrella up front.
