I've been going here my whole life and it's so nice to see the Seattle Center getting a facelift -- mainly the Center House and the addition of the Chihuly Glass Garden. You can actually get decent food at the Center House now and they are allowing light in be adding huge windows (at last!). Bumbershoot and the Folklife Fest are held here and the Seattle Center can handle lots of people. Plus, the Space Needle, EMP, Science Center, Key Arena, and lots more, are here!

If you're in decent shape and looking to see Seattle sites on the cheap, here's a great loop walk:
You can start either at Seattle Center or downtown. If you're downtown, take the monorail to Seattle Center and watch kids playing in the fountain. From the Key Arena, walk down Harrison Street to 3rd Ave West and take the skybridge over the railroad tracks to the waterfront park.
Take a right on the path to the fishing pier and snack stand and small beaches or take a left toward the city to skip this. You'll turn back toward the city after the fishing pier. Walk along the waterfront toward the city. There are several restaurants along the way that have outdoor walk up outdoor dining with great seafood for much less than their food served via waiters. Then take the stairs or elevator up the hill to Pike Place Market. You can walk from Pike Place Market to the monorail at Westlake Center where the monorail starts/ends on the 3rd floor. One way cost is $2.25 to/from Seattle Center.

Seattle Center was our start and end point when visiting Seattle. The park, especially the fountain and sculptures were adored by our young children. Visiting in Sept 12, the weather was hot and dry! For the few days we were there, we started and ended our sightseeing from the center. It was just a joy to allow our children to run and play on the grass and in the water after a day of exploring the city. We were lucky that our accommodation was only a few minutes walk away. The center is much more than just the Space Needle and Monorail.

I have been to the center a few times, especially when we have folks from out of town visiting (as they always wanna see the needle) and find the center to be a bit run down and uneventful. This is, unless you go during something like the Bite or another actual festival. Otherwise, on a casual visit, it seems deserted with not alot going on. The space needle is really the only thing to do, but that is now become a bit pricey in my opinion. If you are just looking for a view of the city, try going up a building down town. That way, you can get a picture with the Space Needle in it.

This place needs to be torn down, redesigned and rebuilt to give it a desireable look & feel. It is a dissapointing showcase for our city.
