“Better than the Space Needle”

Sky View Observatory
Ranked #7 of 460 things to do in Seattle
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 4, 2014

I know the Space Needle is a must see - but the view from this observatory is better! Plus you can get some great shots of the Space Needle!

360 degree view of Seattle! And once you pay you can return throughout the day. So go and take photos early and then go back for photos of the lights at night!

Go on a clear day. Superb view of the surrounding area. Less crowded than the Space Needle. Closer to Pike Place, the water front and down town shopping.

1. On a clear day you can see forever -- 360 degrees!
2. You can show a visitor what you have been trying all week to explain.
3. Informative panels on the walls and beneath windows present interesting tid-bits..
4. Comfortable seating. You will be standing, looking, for longer than you ever imagined.
5. You can bring in a latte from the Starbucks on the 40th floor
6. You can come back at sunset because you have in-and-out privileges
7 The Observatory has a more luxe feel to it than any of our other high view spots. What a great spot for a marriage proposal or job offer!

Oh, and Senior discount (age 55) is $9 rather than $12.50 and sometimes there are Groupons. Let me know if this information helps!.

Couldn't decide whether to go up the Space Needle or this Sky View but a groupon happened to come so I took the deal. The Space Needle is quite pricey, and the view from the Sky View includes the Space Needle. We went on a Monday morning and parked on the next block down in a public lot at 4th & Columbia, a little past the corner parking with valet and directly across the Rentacar lot. It was $5/hour plus tax. Small lot though. We had a tiny car so no problems. Only a few people were there and it's clean and enclosed and you have views from all angles. It was super quiet. You take the elevators to the 40th floor - with a Starbucks - then take a set to the 73rd floor.

I had a groupon that made the admission price buy one get free which may have added to my enjoyment of observation deck. I believe it is about $12 per person otherwise which compared to the Space Needle is a great deal. Also in my opinion the Columbia Tower has better views than the space needle and the smith tower. Probably because it is so much higher. You are so high up that all the hills look flat. There was a place to buy coffee and local Seattle chocolate at the top and they have plenty of information posted on the walls. It was a little gross seeing all the greasy foreheads against the windows so I guess that would be my only gripe. But I would definitely say this is my number one recommendation for an observation deck in Seattle.
