“great views...no lines”

Sky View Observatory
Ranked #7 of 468 things to do in Seattle

We visited in the late afternoon just as 3 Alaska bound ferries were leaving port. The weather had been unstable so the views were really beautiful, including a large rain storm on one side. The windows were very clean and there were very few people - so no lines and no fighting for a view...it was great

Cool and fast elevator brings you up to the 73rd floor to the chilled out observation deck. The obs deck is huge, with educational material on the interior walls and comfy chairs to rest in. The view is spectacular and not to be missed. PS-the admission rate is cheaper than the Needle, you go higher and there are fewer people. Great spot! My son loved the elevator. The concession stand takes cash only, OR you can stop on the 40th floor and pick up coffee from a famous Seattle based coffeeshop. The Columbia Tower was one of our favourite things in Seattle.

Go there for the highest view of the city. The almost 360 panorama is beautiful. The building is an office building, and they don't try to hide it with their plain grey ugly carpet. But hey! You are here to check outside the windows, not inside and you don't have to wait in line like at the needle.

We took the light rail train to Pioneer Square and after exploring the area went to the Sky View Observatory which was recommended to us by a friend who lives in Seattle. The views are spectacular! The fee did seem a bit high but considering the comfortable chairs, the fact that you can stay as long as you want and enjoy the view, it was worth it. Definitely the best view in my book and so glad my friend suggested it over the Space Needle.

This is a late review from our summer 2012 road trip. We walked around many of the sites in Seattle. The park under the Space needle was great as they were having an international food festival. A very nice crowd. We decided to view the city from Columbia Center rather that the Space needle which was overpriced. Columbia Center was a very inexpensive site, with a great view from the observation deck of all of Seattle, including the Space Needle, stadiums, and the airport, with planes flying past, at a lower altitude than we were. My grandson loved it. Best of all, no crowd.
