My husband and I did a little First Thursday museum hopping and ended our night at MOHAI. We gave ourselves two hours, but that was definitely not enough! There are so many exhibits, and every single one is fascinating! We are originally from the Philadelphia area and have only lived in Seattle for a year, so it was great to learn so much about the history of this area. Coming from an area that was very heavily historic (Philadelphia? Hello!), we have a tendency to think that things out west aren't super interesting from an American history perspective, but boy were we wrong!

We don't have children, but if you do, there will be plenty to keep them busy too- interactive exhibits, videos, even a little musical number about the great fire in Seattle.

All in all, an awesome time, despite the First Thursday crowd. Give yourself lots of time to move slowly through this jam-packed museum.

Just opened at its new location on the south end of Lake Union, MOHAI has amazingly transformed the old naval armory to wonderfully display artifacts and interactive explanations of Seattle's history and industry. Have you wondered how Seattle started? The people behind the street names of Denny and Mercer? Indians and Harbor Island? Companies like Boeing and Microsoft? Seattle icons like hydroplane Slo Mo IV? Items and answers are here at the MOHAI.

Within the spacious main area and four floor's perimeters reached by a fast transparent elevator, are attractively presented topics by means of towers and rooms. One of my favorites was Celluloid Seattle: a City at the Movies...a history of films made and shown here in Seattle's theaters past to present. Also, don't miss seeing the clever short film of Seattle's Great Fire.

Planned for adults and children, the informational formats please the eye and reveal fascinating facts. The 8 year old boy with us loved all the buttons he could push and wheels he could turn to activate lights, action and even a sawmill. Children can go on a scavenger hunt to spot 8 items. He found all 8.

Need a lunch or snack? Visit the light and bright Compass Cafe. We enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich plus a molasses and chocolate chip cookie while our boy described the Compass Cookie as "Yummy."

Want to avoid admission cost? Come for free on the First Thursday of each month. Yet, children 14 and under are always free when accompanied by an adult guardian. Parking is free.

The wealth of material presented will whet your appetite to return for more. You simply can't absorb it all in one visit. Yet as much as MOHAI is a delightful educational attraction, its setting in the surrounding park with Lake Union boats and float planes makes the total experience an outstanding outing, period!

The staff at MOHAI did a great job with the museum. Great for all ages!!! The first thing I noticed while entering the museum is the Toe truck. What a great icon to see the first thing you walk into the museum. It brought a smile to my face! It is a lot of fun, great exhibits and well laid out. The kids were given scavenger hunt cards and they had a great time trying to find all the items. A lot of the exhibits were very interactive with computer reader boards to actual touch and feel displays. The food was great (I think we will be stopping there for snacks while we boat during the summer). Great location at the South Lake Union park.

Well we were plesantly surprised at this new attraction on lake union! Excellently put together and kept our interest always! We learned so much more about our area and were throughly surprised about issues... This is a must do when traveling to Seattle or even if you live nearby like we do! They even had a cruze boat ride around lake union! enjoy!

Many hands on exhibits-interesting for children as well as adults. The museum was in the process of moving locations, but still had much to see.
